Originally announced all the way back at E3 2019 with a short teaser trailer, Rainbow Six Extraction has been a relative mystery for fans with little to no information to go on since that point. Only months after its reveal, Ubisoft announced an unfortunate delay along with several other titles, which allowed it to go dark completely until it finally resurfaced a few weeks ago to announce a name change from its original name Rainbow Six Quarantine, replacing it with Extraction.

With the name change announcement, fans quickly realized that the upcoming Rainbow Six Extraction would likely be included in Ubisoft's E3 showcase. Up to now, little has been discussed with the game, save for the fact that it appears to use the foundation of the highly popular Rainbow Six Siege PvE limited time mode called Outbreak. Players worked in teams to overcome an infection plaguing a town in New Mexico, trying to survive against enemies known as Roaches. Well, after a long wait, fans finally got the answers they wanted thanks to a new trailer.

As expected, Rainbow Six Extraction finally resurfaced at Ubisoft's E3 2021 press conference with a new trailer that set up the game world. Operators from Rainbow Six Siege are back for this experience and surprisingly, Hibana has been captured by the virus with the others looking to rescue her. With Ash running point, and Ela, Lion, and Nomad in the field, the team of three eventually make it to her position, though they're soon swarmed by additional infected known as Archaen including Apex level enemies.

The team is able to make it to Hibana in time, with Nomad creating an extraction point for the squad to escape. While in the relative safety of the helicopter, the trailer ends with the final piece of the puzzle. Rainbow Six Extraction is launching a lot sooner than many fans may have likely realized as the trailer reveals a September 22, 2021 release date. It's also a cross-generation title, coming to PS4 and Xbox One consoles as well as PC, Stadia, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Following the CG trailer, Ubisoft revealed more on the experience by showing off actual gameplay as well as the various Archaen infected that the team of three will be going up against. The most common enemy type is the grunt, a tier 1 enemy. Stealth seems to be the preferred tactic as enemies react to changes in the ecosystem, so going loud will likely result in players getting overwhelmed quickly. The footage also shows off the Spiker, Archaen sprawl, and one of the tier 3 monsters, the Lurker.

Rainbow Six Extraction launches on September 22, 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
