It appears as though the list of highly anticipated video games coming out in early 2022 is constantly growing. Rainbow Six Extraction, a cooperative multiplayer spin-off of Rainbow Six Siege, is another title that is added to that list. Originally coming out in September 2021, Rainbow Six Extraction was delayed to 2022 and now has a new release date.

There was a recent leak from Ubisoft that showed the release date of Rainbow Six Extraction but it wasn’t officially confirmed. According to a post on Twitter from Rainbow Six Extraction’s account, it appears as though that leak is true, as it will be coming out on January 20, 2022.

The Twitter post also shared a lot of other exciting information regarding Rainbow Six Extraction. Although originally announced to be a full-priced title, Rainbow Six Extraction will now be priced at $39.99 for the Standard Edition and or the Deluxe Edition for $49.99 which includes 3 bonus packs according to the Twitter post. That’s not all though. The post also announces the Buddy Pass, which allows friends on any platform to play for free for up to 14 days. Lastly, post-launch content coming to Rainbow Six Extraction will be "completely" free.

This a ton of new information for Rainbow Six Extraction is that more than likely going to entice initially reluctant observers of the title. Although the idea behind Rainbow Six Extraction is interesting, there was a ton of pushback over the fact it was a fully priced game that appeared to just be a copy of the popular Rainbow Six Siege Outbreak event. Many were disappointed by how Rainbow Six Extraction looked and thankfully Ubisoft noticed that.

Ubisoft delayed Rainbow Six Extraction, and although it’s not clear what new changes were made in this time, with four extra months Ubisoft seems to have changed how it will tackle the cooperative multiplayer game such as reducing the price and adding a friend pass. With 14 days, a player should be able to get a real feel for the game and understand if it’s something they would want to invest in. It’s not entirely clear how much restriction is put on these 14 days, though and it’s possible not everything is available to free players.

As for free post-launch content, it also sounds exciting and implies that Ubisoft plan on supporting the title for a while. Ubisoft games such as Assassin’s Creed typically have paid post-launch content that adds a considerable amount of new content so it’s interesting to see Ubisoft say Rainbow Six Extraction will have free post-launch content. Hopefully, this content also adds some significant updates such as new maps, operators, or weapons. Regardless, those that were interested in Rainbow Six Extraction now have a lot more reasons to buy it.

Rainbow Six Extraction releases January 20 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
