With id Software’s open world FPS RAGE right around the corner the developer thought it best to release their minimum and recommended PC requirements for those gamers who might want to give their PCs an added boost before picking up the game. Before this announcement most figured, based on trailers and details for the game, that RAGE would be a very taxing game, but it turns out that isn't the case.

Turns out, the requirements for running RAGE are relatively common and shouldn’t force too many hardcore PC gamers to upgrade their machines.

Probably as a result of the game's multiplatform status, these requirements shouldn't force anyone with around a two-year old machine to pick up any new hardware. The only real shocker as far as the PC requirements are concerned is the sizeable 25GB install. Realistically, if you’ve been running the likes of Crysis 2 your PC should be more than capable of handling what RAGE has too offer.

Here are the minimum and recommended requirements:

Minimum:

  • OS: Win XP SP3, Vista, Win 7
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo or Equivalent AMD
  • Memory: 2GB
  • Hard Disk Space: 25GB
  • Video Card: GeForce 8800, Radeon HD 4200

Recommended:

  • OS: Win XP SP3, Vista, Win 7
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad or Equivalent AMD
  • Memory: 4GB
  • Hard Disk Space: 25GB
  • Video Card: GeForce 9800 GTX, ATI Radeon HD 5550

While it might be a disappointment to see that RAGE isn’t going to push your hardcore gaming rig to the max (a sign of id Tech 5's viability on consoles), it doesn’t discredit the fact that the game looks amazing across all platforms. Some of our hands-on time with the game hasn’t revealed the most desirable of results, but as a total package there is a lot to be excited for.

Using a new piece of software that creates unique and dynamic textures for environments, id Software has made a game that should, by all accounts, be a treat to experience from beginning to end. So, maybe the game doesn’t boast the types of hardware that a PC-only title might, but it’s definitely high on our list of most anticipated games releasing in the latter part of this year.

And hey, id Software now has Doom 4 in development, which does promise to push the limits of graphical processing power on all platforms. But is it really about how hard a game pushes your gaming PC these days?

What do you think of the PC requirements for RAGE? Does seeing that the recommended requirements are relatively innocuous change your opinion of the game?

RAGE releases October 4, 2011 for the PS3, PC, and Xbox 360.
