During Bethesda's E3 press conference, id Software and Avalanche Studios revealed new details on Rage 2's upcoming expansion, called Rise of the Ghosts. In addition to new details on the DLC, it was confirmed that both teams will be working to release weekly Rage 2 updates sure to bring a new look to the post-apocalyptic open-world sequel.

There's no set release date, as of now, for Rage 2'Rise of the Ghosts expansion, other than that it's expected to launch later this year. Rise of the Ghosts will bring with it a new story arc as well as a new enemy faction and areas to explore. Given the way most expansions work for open-world games, these three new content add-ons will likely compliment one another. While news of Rage 2's content roadmap was revealed just before its release last month, this is the first time more details on the respective expansions have been discussed.

For those who don't want to wait until the end of the year to have more to play in Rage 2, they'll be happy to know there are weekly content updates coming that continue to build from what the base game has offered since its official launch this past May. Some of what's expected to come to Rage 2 in the near future includes new enemies (outside of what the DLC is promising), new vehicles (which features a pilotable mech), cheats, and gameplay modes. Some of the cheats listed in the announcement video include low gravity settings, enemies exploding when killed, and vehicles projecting hundreds of feet in the air, each fitting the tone of what Rage 2's over-the-top gameplay style looks to offer.

The weekly updates, specifically the 'new weapons' portion, could be seen as a response to feedback on content excluded from the base game. Given id Software worked on the combat for Rage 2, fans were disappointed when it was revealed the BFG 9000, made famous from the company's Doom franchise, would only be available in the Deluxe and Collector's Editions for the game.

Details on what's to come mirror what id Software Studio Director Tim Willits has said about the future of the Rage 2. When asked, by GameSpot, a couple months ago about how post-launch content could affect the game's open-world, Willits stated Rage 2 could be 'different' six months after launch. With a May release, and its expansion content expected before the end of 2019, the roadmap for Rage 2 appears to be spot-on for the time being.

Rage 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
