Quentin Tarantino has built his career around directing iconic films like Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill since the early '90s, with most of his movies gaining critical praise and cult status among fans. Now Tarantino is saying his tenth feature film will be his last before retirement, and he almost considered rebooting Reservoir Dogs as his final project.

Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino's gritty directorial debut, has become a fan favorite and has reached legendary film status in the 29 years since its release in 1992. The film about a robbery gone wrong and is not only impressive as a debut but it's also rated as Tarantino's second-best film according to Rotten Tomatoes.

Reboots are currently running rampant in Hollywood, but Tarantino has never touched one and fans might be surprised to hear he would consider such a thing for one of his most memorable films. Speaking as a guest on Real Time With Bill Maher, the writer-director expressed that his desire to retire after a tenth film was based on motion picture history. He cited both his age and career trajectory as good indicators that retirement should come soon. Seeing as how his last film, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, was so celebrated that it won two Oscar awards, it's clear that Tarantino is trying to bow out of his career while on a high note.

He hasn't given fans so much as a clue of what his final film will be, but he has confirmed that, after initial consideration, the Reservoir Dogs reboot will not be happening. "I won't do it, internet! But I considered it," the director said to Maher. Despite Tarantino's desire to retire at the top of his game, Maher urged the filmmaker to continue directing after his tenth feature.

Tarantino is known for making grizzly films with punchy dialogue and enough fake blood to fill a swimming pool. So, it will be interesting for fans to see if his last film continues in that direction or leans more towards Hollywood, which was more of a character study and saved all its gore for the final act.

Fans can pick up the novelization of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood starting June 29, 2021. The book was written by Tarantino, who is as acclaimed for his writing as he is for his directing. He was responsible for scripts like Natural Born Killers and True Romance, neither of which he directed. Until he reveals his plans for his final film, fans can always watch Tarantino's favorite films from the last decade while they wait.

Reservoir Dogs is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
