Cryptocurrency, particularly Bitcoin, has been making headlines lately as its value has skyrocketed over the past year. As of the time of this writing, one Bitcoin is worth nearly $10,000, and so the prospect of obtaining one can be rather tantalizing. Well, gamers will have a chance to win one Bitcoin for themselves if they are the first to beat the new puzzle game Montecrypto: The Bitcoin Enigma.

Montecrypto: The Bitcoin Enigma will be available on February 20, exclusively on PC through Steam. The game is a first-person puzzle game where players explore a maze and are tasked with solving 24 different puzzles. Like the Dark Souls series, players can interact with others by leaving notes that will either help them solve puzzles or hinder their progress.

Montecrypto: The Bitcoin Enigma is being developed by Gem Rose Accent, a new studio that is keeping the identities of its developers secret until the end of the contest.

By putting 1 Bitcoin up as a prize, Gem Rose Accent has likely increased the sales of its puzzle game significantly. Retailing for just $2, it's easy to see how many gamers will pay the small entry fee for the chance to win the Bitcoin, which could then be sold for almost $10,000.

However, it's unclear just how difficult Montecrypto: The Bitcoin Enigma is going to be. The game is reportedly taking inspiration from On the Trail of the Golden Owl, which is a treasure hunting book released back in 1993 that tasks people with finding a buried golden owl. To date, On the Trail of the Golden Owl has yet to be solved. However, if gamers actually work together with the Dark Souls-like message system, then Montecrypto may be solved much sooner.

In the meantime, it's interesting to see how cryptocurrency has influenced gaming so far. The act of mining it has seen GPU prices soar, and some games, like the upcoming Reality Clash, are creating their own cryptocurrencies to compete with Bitcoin. As cryptocurrency becomes more popular, gamers can expect it to have an even bigger influence on gaming.
