Reddit user midwesternhousewives discovers a new secret hidden in Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! for the NES that makes a couple of the game's fights easier.

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! released almost 30 years ago, so one would imagine that gamers already know everything there is to know about the game. However, a Reddit user that goes by the name midwesternhousewives has uploaded a video to YouTube that reveals a long-kept Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! secret that makes the fights against Piston Honda and Bald Bull much easier.

As fans of the game can attest, Punch-Out!! is all about visual cues and timing (which makes the fact that someone beat Punch-Out!! blindfolded especially impressive), so it's fitting that the secret comes in the form of a new visual cue. If players are able to react to that cue fast enough, they are able to defeat both Piston Honda and Bald Bull with a single punch each.

The cue comes from an audience member sitting in the upper-left corner of the screen, in the front row. When this bearded character ducks, that is the time when Little Mac is supposed to punch Piston Honda or Bald Bull. If timed correctly, they will be knocked out easily.

While some gamers may have discovered this secret before midwesternhousewives, he is the first one to provide video evidence of the trick. Perhaps his efforts will encourage others to upload videos of other secrets that they have discovered in various retro video games. Who knows, maybe we'll learn something new about one of the original Super Mario titles or one of the classic Mega Man games next?

What this trick illustrates is that games from the NES era often have more depth than what is initially believed. It's crazy to think that gamers are still coming across new secrets in these games decades after they released, and one has to wonder what other secrets are hiding in other old Nintendo games from the 80's and 90's. Nowadays, it seems like all of the secrets a game has to offer are discovered not long after release (or at least within a couple years of release, like the Assassin's Creed Unity cake Easter Egg), so it's refreshing to learn that there's still some things left to discover in the titles of yesteryear.
