Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a life simulation game, where players move to a deserted island after purchasing a getaway package with their created character. It released last year when worldover quarantine measures were taking place, and exploded in popularity in a manner rarely seen before. New Horizons has been setting sales records ever since, making it the second-best selling Nintendo Switch title, just behind the evergreen Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
A new surprising collaboration has been just teased between one of the biggest games on Nintendo Switch and Puma. Although there is no official announcement, it seems like the sportswear brand will be releasing footwear designed around Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Given the popularity of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it is not surprising to see that Puma and Nintendo have decided to work together in this promotion. This tease comes from the official Puma account on Twitter. At this moment, it just shows the logo of both the brand as well as the game, enough to catch everyone’s attention. Nintendo followed it up by retweeting with the words “Something new is on the horizon.” There is no official news of what this promotion will be comprised of, though the icon used by Puma in the Tweet generally denotes that information will be shared in the near future.
Footwear designed around gaming have increasingly becoming popular. Back in May, Nike had partnered up with Sony and released special PlayStation 5-themed sneakers. Two designs were launched at a retail price of $110, and their stock did not last for too long. As this tweet is not even a day old, fans would have to wait to get more information regarding the categories of products, their designs, and pricing.
Although Animal Crossing: New Horizons was a massive sales success, some fans have gotten increasingly frustrated over the lack of updates. As expected, the replies to this tweet also feature a few disgruntled fans complaining about the state of the game. Although New Horizons recently received a new update that fixed some lingering bugs, it is safe to assume that fans have been asking for more meaningful content to be added to the game. Last month, Nintendo did confirm that more free content will be released for New Horizons later this year.
