PUBG Corp's hugely popular battle royale game, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, has received several major additions over the last few weeks. For example, the game introduced a limited time game mode called War which sees three teams of 10 players battle it out against one another to control Erangel. There is also the new spectate killer mode which lets players follow the player who took them out.

While these were significant, the latest PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds update eclipses that by a wide margin, introducing several major new gameplay features. The patch, which is currently being kept to the PC PTR (public test region) so that the team can make changes, adds the Mirado vehicle which is described as a "classic muscle car" that seats four players and is "the fastest way to blaze down a highway." The new vehicle is exclusive to the Miramar map, explains PUBG Corp, and it can be found in downtown areas and on main city streets.

Another major feature is the map selection option. The developer explains that players will be able to pick just one map on its own (either Erangel or Miramar) to ensure that they will play there, or they can select multiple maps and the game will randomly select one.

The screenshot for the feature also lists one map as 'Coming Soon' which seems to be in reference to the teased, upcoming Savage map. It looks as though players will also be able to select Savage through this feature once it is released, which will make things easy for people who want to spend as much time on the new map as they can, rather than hoping the random selector lands them on it.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds players have strong opinions about the game's map, with some even going as far as to delete game files in order to avoid Miramar when it was first released. This was deemed to be in violation of the game's rules, but the map selection feature provides an official solution.

This update also adds a variety of weapon balance changes, with overall damage dealt, reload time, vertical recoil, pellet spread, transition speed, and scope speed just some of the attributes being changed. Changes to the weight and damage of grenades have also been introduced, along with tweaks to character movement speed and camera shakes. These changes could have a significant impact on the game, which is why PUBG Corp is so keen to keep an eye on this and make additional changes if needed before pushing the update out to everyone.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available now on PC, through early access on Xbox One, and on Android and iOS mobile devices.
