PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds was one of the first battle royale titles to make it big, and the game continues to see updates that add and refine content. At the end of July, PUBG Season 8 officially released on consoles and Google Stadia with a remastered Sanhok map, and today its developers announced Update 8.2 will be coming before the end of August with new weapons and features, updated map elements, and more.

The two biggest additions in PUBG's Update 8.2 are the MG3 Light Machine Gun that has two firing speeds while occasionally shooting tracer rounds, and a Decoy Grenade that emits gunshot sounds and ejects shell casings for 10 seconds so long as it is not thrown into a body of water. Neither will be available in Ranked mode, according to the update's patch notes, and Decoy Grenades will only appear rarely as world loot in Sanhok.

Some of the new features being implemented allow players to change their lobby music and hide their helmets so cosmetic items can still be seen. The M416, SKS, and Kar98k guns are receiving visual updates and overhauled firing sounds, and four new docks are being added to PUBG's previously remastered Erangel map alongside minor changes to UI, game performance, and more.

Update 8.2 is going to be available through the game's Public Test Server starting August 12, followed by its official release for PC August 19, then for consoles and Stadia August 27. After the launch of Season 8 with its new Sanhok map and mechanics like loot trucks, it is good to see the developers releasing frequent content to satiate players as they wait to see what "interesting" plans are in store for PUBG Season 9.

As soon as this next update is available on each platform, a "Pick'Em Challenge" will begin to coincide the PUBG Continental Series 2 esports event, allowing players to receive special items by predicting who will win matches until September 23. With over 70 million PUBG units sold as of July, there should be a lot of players available to take part.

While updates continue to roll out for PUBG on major platforms, its mobile spin-off has also received new maps and mechanics for users to enjoy. PUBG Mobile recently avoided getting banned in India by changing its privacy policy to circumnavigate national security concerns, which have also been cited by countries like China for other apps.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is available for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
