PUBG has received an entirely new 8x8 battle royale map named Taego. The map is Eastern-themed and brings with it a handful of gameplay additions that are only available in PUBG matches played on Taego.

Taego was first announced by PUBG Corporation back in May under the codename Tiger. The announcement said that the map, as well as the map Kiki that was announced at the same time, would listen to player feedback that the company had received throughout 2020. At the time the announcement said that one of the biggest pieces of feedback taken into account would be the return to larger 8x8 maps.

Taego also introduces another heavily requested feature, the recently announced second-chance mechanic in PUBG. The feature is only available on Taego for now, and functions similarly to Call of Duty: Warzone's Gulag by letting players killed in the first ring phase a chance to fight it out with one another with the survivor returning in the third ring phase. The map will also feature an all-new Self AED, a utility item that allows players to pick themselves back up after being knocked down. In solo games, players with a Self AED will be knocked down instead of immediately killed, while squads will not be wiped until all knocked down players with a Self AED are fully killed.

Taego also has two exclusive new weapons in the form of the K2 and the MK12. Both guns can be found as normal loot across Taego, with K2 being a 5.56 assault rifle and the MK12 a new 5.56 DMR. To help players survive on the massive map, Taego also introduces a new vehicle to PUBG. Interestingly, it is the Hyundai Pony Coupe which was a real-life concept car in 1974. While the car is fast and boasts all-wheel drive, there are no back windows so any players sitting in the back seats will not be able to shoot out at any enemies the squad comes across. Unfortunately, the quick new car will not be available in PUBG's new Death Race Mode.

Of course, the map is also accompanied by a new survivor pass that has 50 levels of rewards for players who want to complete missions and unlock them. It is great to see PUBG continue to receive new content and support from its developers, especially after rumors of a PUBG sequel have started circulating in recent months. It will be great to see what else is in store for the future of PUBG.

PUBG is available now on Mobile, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
