Last year's Game Awards darling, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, would be remiss to be absent from this year's event. Thus, PUBG Corp. took to The Game Awards 2018's stage with a brand new trailer and the reveal of the battle royale's latest map, Vikendi. Vikendi is PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' long-awaited snow map, introducing a wildly different battle royale experience than what players have experienced in the other PUBG maps. Players can try it out for themselves, because Vikendi goes live on test servers tonight.

Vikendi is going to be different than Erangel, Miramar, and Sanhok in several very meaningful ways. The first is that Vikendi is a 6x6 map, making it significantly larger than PUBG's chaotic Sanhok but not as large as the other two maps by a significant margin. PUBG Corp. is hoping this map size makes for a healthy middle ground between lengthy matches and constant action.

The more tangible differences in Vikendi stem from its nature as a snow map. For one, player footsteps in the snow will remain for the duration of the match, making tracking a significant worry for every player. And no new map would be welcome without a wide variety of new weapons and vehicles. Players can look forward to exciting new gameplay stemming from things like snowmobiles introduced to PUBG.

Vikendi is the second map to be promised by PUBG Corp. and delivered in 2018, the first being the small map Sanhok. The battle royale game was getting close to missing the year, but looks like it will slip into December. While the map is only available on test services tonight, the full map release isn't too far off. Players on PUBG's main servers can join the fun on Vikendi starting December 14.

While Vikendi will mark the end of PUBG's content drops in 2018 most likely, players can likely look forward to more of PUBG Corps.' plans in 2019 soon.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is available now on PC and Xbox One, with a PS4 debut starting December 7.
