In October 2019, a PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds update added console cross-play to the highly-popular battle royale title. However, PUBG's console cross-play has been somewhat limited since its implementation, allowing PS4 and Xbox One players to fight against one another but not letting them team up. That is all about to change, though, as a forthcoming PUBG patch is set to bring cross-play parties to the game very soon.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Update 6.2 is currently scheduled to go live for consoles on Tuesday, March 3, and indeed it will finally make it possible for PS4 and Xbox One players to form parties together. While PUBG patch 6.2 for consoles was previously planned to rollout this week,"technical issues" have forced the developer to delay the update slightly. However, players can try out cross-platform parties before the update's release, as the feature is available on the PUBG PTS right now.

To note, the addition of cross-play parties to PUBG will come with an update to the game's friends list. Once the update goes live, players will be able to search for others regardless of what console they are playing on, and they will be able to add them to their friends list from there. Additionally, the PUBG friends list will have four tabs following the patch, which will make it easy for players to sort their friends by platform.

While the ability to form cross-platform parties is an exciting new feature, it is not the only thing coming to PUBG with update 6.2 for consoles. Indeed, the new patch will launch PUBG's Team Deathmatch mode, which will throw teams of eight players into battle across seven different battlefields. In this new mode, teams will be looking to reach 50 kills as quickly as possible, or simply have the most kills after a round's 10 minutes have passed, and the team that wins two rounds will be crowned the victor.

Furthermore, patch 6.2 for consoles will address a number of general gameplay elements. This includes making a myriad of changes to how PUBG's grenades function and an update to loot spawns on Karakin. As with cross-play parties, these changes are currently available on the PTS, which means that console players need not wait until March 3 to see them in action.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is available now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
