The PUBG Corporation, developer behind PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, has unfortunately announced that it will not be holding its PUBG Global Series events this year due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak. However, fans and potential competitors will be glad to know that there will still be a series of competitions held, and for a good cause.
In lieu of the PUBG Global Series, PUBG will instead be hosting a digital-only PUBG Continental Series Charity Showdown starting in May with additional events worldwide continuing through August. The prize pool for the combined events will be a whopping $2.4 million. Regions that will see the competition arrive in their area include Asia, Europe, and North America.
In addition to offering the winner of each region $100,000, and additional $100k will be awarded to the competitor's charity of choice, meaning the competitions will be played for fame, fortune, and a good cause. There will also be compensation offered to the players who qualified for the PUBG Global Series in Berlin, which was indefinitely delayed.
It's not the first time that PUBG has offered up considerable money for a good cause, as the developer recently raised funds for Australia wildfire relief with a custom skin in-game.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
