While Epic Games' Fortnite Battle Royale is arguably a global phenomenon at this point, there's no reason to count out Bluehole Studios' PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds just yet, especially after the battle royale title just recently broke a major concurrent player record on Steam. As it so happens, PUBG has now managed to become the first Steam game to have one million concurrent players for 365 consecutive days.

According to data and analytics from the tracking site SteamDB, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has managed to maintain a year-long streak of hosting one million or more concurrent players every day since September 2017. PUBG peaked in earlier this year in January with 3.2 million concurrent players, with the battle royale title seeing a decline since then, just barely making it past the milestone on September 8.

There's no doubt that this record is a significant feat for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, but the development team will need to find a way to boost its player engagement numbers once more so as to better compete with the wide swathe of battle royale releases in the market. Hopefully for the the game's sake, its "Fix PUBG" campaign will be successful in ridding the bugs and numerous issues fans have encountered in the title so far, as its stability issues may have been a reason for player decline.

All things considered, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has more plans for the future to keep fans coming back for more, as a recent datamine has uncovered a trove of information about what's to come. For instance, the leaked details offered up a look at the game's new snow map dubbed "Dihor Otik", which will bring the playable maps up to four in total. Beyond this, though, it will be interesting to see what else makes its way into the game down the line.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is available now for Android, iOS, PC, and Xbox One.
