Battle royal games didn't really take off till Player Unknown Battlegrounds (PUBG) came on to the scene and popularized the genre, however, because PUBG didn't maintain that influence in the genre which allowed other games like Fortnite and Apex Legends to push battle royals further, this pushed PUBG in the back and let the other flourish. PUBG has had many issues since its debut being rather on the hard side for new-time players and also being paid for while other battle royals opted for a free-to-play route.

Even with the issues, PUBG still allowed it and other battle royals to flourish on a Xbox which gave battle royals more space in the gaming world. Not everything is doom and gloom in the present of PUBG, the battle royal has gone through some important changes that have allowed it to come back up and be a proper game just like PUBG was intended to be. If new players are looking to try out PUBG for the first time, then this list should convince them to try PUBG out, and for old players who will welcome the new changes and drop back in and relive one of the best battle royal games to date.

5 More Fluid Gameplay

One of the best things about PUBG is how simple it is, the formula goes like this, drop in, loot, and kill other players, these things make the learning curve a lot more steady allowing players to get more chicken dinners more often. However, it wasn't always this fluid, players would note that while the gunplay would be realistic it would still be awfully clunky making players get fed up with that system, but since then PUBG gameplay as a whole has become more streamlined.

This can allow players to escape and fight better without worrying if their character will do what the player is inputting, this may not seem like a lot, but in battle royals, the movement and gunplay being fluid certainly helps the player survive longer because the system isn't broken. On top of that, looting and running through buildings were a chore because players needed to accommodate the clunkiness of that system by slowing down when they loot, now because the movements are more on par with other battle royals players will be able to do all those things with ease and allows PUBG to be a worth shooter.

4 More Modes

When PUBG first dropped, the game only offered one mode that could be played a few different ways this was great but as other battle royals started to implement other modes to make them live longer and make them more diverse, PUBG stayed true to using the one mode consistently. This changed recently and for the better, while the battle royal is there, PUBG offers modes like team deathmatch, gun game, domination, and a few others which are all available in the arena section of PUBG. Using the same realism offered in the battle royal section of PUBG, the arena mode has the feel which makes for very fun gameplay moments.

These modes allow players to get a better taste of what PUBG has and help players get a feel of the guns under pressure as opposed to using the gun range because players can fight back. On top of that, the arena modes give players a chance to ease themselves into PUBG because while the game itself isn't that hard to get into anymore, these modes can fluidly integrate new players into its system which makes PUBG a great jumping-off point for players who've never experienced a true battle royal.

3 Drones

Using the mechanic from the newer mobile version of PUBG: New State, players will have an easier time fighting with drones, the same way for players to win in the mobile version will have the same luck in the main version of PUBG. Drones are a great new mechanic which makes survival and safety much easier for players to do, not only do drones allow players to see what's around them but also give them an indication of the danger around them if there is any. It gives players an advantage over others who don't have a drone because PUBG does have a map but does not tell where any of the other players are, so the drone is a great substitute for that.

Plus when players have drones equipped, they'll be able to scout areas and buildings at a distance giving them more safety, and they can plan better, being able to plan and to see the upcoming area can change the round for the player's squad in PUBG. Not just for helping the players see more but to also help players spot other enemies, this alone can help players win with ease much better because being able to see what's ahead is a huge advantage for players in PUBG.

2 Better Optimization

When PUBG first dropped it was in BETA, but had a lot of issues even when it came out of BETA, it experienced issues like connectivity, low frames, bad animations, and many more. All these things made PUBG rather frustrating for players who wanted to play because the game wouldn't work the way it was intended. But since then, PUBG has become something else and something much better as well, players can easily jump and don't need to worry about being disconnected every round.

Plus PUBG can run well on low-spec PCs which allows more players to get into it if they have a rig that's not that strong. Plus players will stronger machines can use these settings to make PUBG run even better allowing them to get the chicken dinner more often. When a game runs well, then players will have a better time playing, additionally when the game is multiplayer and a battle royal that needs the input of what players to what their character does 1:1 then shooting, moving, and everything else becomes easier. Having this type of game run can make a world of difference because everything needs to be in sync with what the player is doing.

1 Going Free-to-Play

Probably one of the biggest improvements that have made its way to PUBG, with a lot of games going in this direction it makes sense for PUBG to follow suit. While the free-to-play version has mostly everything the paid version has minus things like ranked, it's still very much the same game. While things like ranked are not present in the free-to-play version which is meant to give an incentive to buy PUBG, the free-to-play version is just a full-fledged which allows new players to jump and win provided they have some help going in with these tips, it makes things much easier for first time players.

On top of that going free-to-play has made PUBG a lot more popular which means it's a great time for both new and old players to get into the game and because of that growth matches will be even more intense. Since PUBG has gone free-to-play it allows people who wouldn't want to try these types of games out a better reason and options as well, because other big named battle royals have gone free-to-play like Apex Legends and Fortnite.

PUBG is available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Android, IOS, Stadia, and PC.
