Nepal has officially banned PlayerUnknown's Battleground at the request of parents and schools. In an attempt to prevent the addiction and violence that has allegedly stemmed from the game, the country's government has decided to eliminate the cause.

Superintendent of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh says eight schools and 25 individual guardians filed complaints that claimed PUBG was hindering studies of students and promoting violent behaviors, such as throwing and damaging mobile devices when told not to play the game. While this may seem like the typical antics of unruly youth, the government took the matters much more seriously. After psychiatrists agreed that the game was too dangerous, Singh took the matter to the Kathmandu District Court and requested PUBG be banned.

The typical claims that violent games cause violent behavior were thrown around, and the court ruled that the arguments had merit. A letter was then sent to the National Telecommunications Authority requesting the game be banned. The organization relayed the message to ISPs and network providers, all of which then blocked PUBG. While getting around this is as simple as downloading a VPN client, those in Nepal who choose to play in spite of the ban will be subject to punishment.

Nepal isn't the only country to see the game as dangerous. It has been the target of much ire from many other parts of the world as well. Parts of India have also banned the popular battle royale game and have even arrested citizens for playing it. Most recently, a publication in India claimed PUBG is turning kids into psychopaths.

In other news, the creator of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Brendan Greene, has been discussing his next project, which is still very early in pre-production, so there are not a lot of details ready to be shared. What we do know is that it will not be a sequel to PUBG. In fact, Greene recently stated in an interview that he is done with battle royale entirely. With that in mind, audiences will just have to wait and see what genre of games Greene has moved on to and whether it will be as popular as PUBG.
