More than five years after the release of PT in 2014, fans are still poking into every nook and cranny of the game and uncovering exciting tidbits about it.

One member of the thriving PT community, Lance McDonald, has released a short video on his Twitter account that confirms that the character controlled throughout the game is in fact actor Norman Reedus.

PT is a short first-person psychological horror game that was released as a playable teaser for what would have been the ninth game in the Silent Hill series. Normally, players can’t see the face of the playable teaser’s protagonist because the mirror in the bathroom is covered with filth. McDonald, however, managed to hack the game and move the camera down to chest height so that a cleaner area of the mirror would be visible. Luckily, the mirror is actually reflective and revealed that the face of the main character belongs to Norman Reedus, The Walking Dead star who had been slated to be the main character in the finished game.

Fans have long suspected that Reedus was indeed the main character throughout the game because he appears briefly at the end of the playable teaser. However, it wasn’t certain that his likeness had actually been recreated for the entirety of the short game because it was only intended to be a tech demo and we never see his face.

Lance McDonald is well known in the PT community for hacking the game and uncovering disturbing things about it, such as the fact that the supernatural antagonist Lisa is actually lurking behind the main character the entire time he investigates the house. That is not an encouraging thought for those who have played the teaser and are familiar with how creepy it already is.

When PT first appeared as a downloadable demo on PlayStation 4, it took the gaming world by storm. Fans were excited not only by how effectively terrifying it was, but at the prospect of getting to play as Norman Reedus. So after Konami canceled the game and Hideo Kojima left the company, there was understandably a lot of disappointment. But Reedus soon signed on to star in Kojima’s next endeavor, Death Stranding, which was developed by Kojima Productions and came out in November 2019.
