The PS5 and Xbox Series X releases have not been as exemplary as Sony and Microsoft would love players to believe. Just like the PS4 and Xbox One before them, the new consoles have been facing problem after problem.
While some self-help guides have come out to help ease players' worries, many of these problems have still gone on unrecognized. Thankfully, most of the problems have been minimal and are easy to work around. On the other hand, some of these problems have left players with broken consoles and a need to contact tech support.
14 PS5 - Data Transfer
Some unlucky gamers have encountered issues when transferring data over from their PS4 system. Specifically, this problem occurs when connecting the two consoles through the USB ports. This problem has been said to occur when using the USB port in the back of the PS5 console. It has also occurred when connecting the consoles using a LAN cable. It has been reported that using the USB port in the front of the console can help with the problem. Another fix for the issue is a full factory reset of the console, but that is only if the issue persists as it will delete all user data from the system.
13 Xbox Series X - Automatic Shut Down
Microsoft fans have voiced their disappointment about this rather serious Series X problem. It appears as though some systems have been shutting down on their own. It is reported that this problem only occurs when booting up a game. It is also reported that this problem isn't game-specific. It has happened for every game from Black Ops: Cold War to Watch Dogs: Legion. There haven't been any reported fixes for this issue except for rebooting the console and praying that it doesn't happen again. It is possible that this could be a hardware issue. Let's all hope that it isn't.
12 PS5 - External Hard Drive Issues
Players have reported even more problems with transferring data from their PS4 to the PS5. This time it doesn't involve the USB port, but rather the external hard drive. Players have reported that while transferring data to the PS5 with an external hard drive their data has gotten corrupted. After the data gets corrupted it is gone for good so players better watch out for this bug. An easy way around it would be to skip the external hard drive and go straight to downloading and installing games. Save data can be downloaded from the cloud on the PS5.
11 Xbox Series X - Disconnecting Controllers
This problem briefly appeared on Xbox One consoles, so it could be possible that Microsoft will be able to fix this problem easily. Players have been experiencing a controller issue that causes their controllers to mysteriously disconnect while in use.
After the controllers disconnect they can't reconnect and must be hardwired back into the console. This will allow the controllers to reconnect for a short while, but players have reported that the controllers will disconnect again after a while. Apparently resetting the console will fix the problem, but it isn't a permanent fix.
10 PS5 - Controller Connectivity Issues
It seems the PS5 has a similar issue to the Xbox Series X. Players have reported connectivity issues with the new DualSense Controllers. Specifically, this problem comes from the update that players must download during the PS5 setup. Players have said that the update causes the connectivity issues. Most players that have reported the issue have said it is from disconnecting the controller during the update. A factory reset helps mend the problem so players can download the update again.
9 Xbox Series X - 4K Resolution Problems
Players have reported a problem with the 4K resolution display connection of the Xbox Series X. When connecting to a TV, some players have reported that they receive a message that says "no signal." Some have reported that they have fixed the problem by changing some settings on the TV while others have reported that updating their TV has helped. Microsoft may be able to update the console to help with this connectivity issue, but for now, there is no guaranteed fix.
8 PS5 - Download Queue Issues
Downloads are a necessity, especially if players bought the all-digital edition of the PS5. This has led to an issue with the download queue when downloading games to the console. Players have reported that some games will get stuck in download queue limbo. This means that the currently downloading game will get stuck in a state where they are downloading constantly without any chance of finishing. Others have reported getting an error message that states the game cannot be downloaded. Reports say that a factory reset can fix the issue.
7 Xbox Series X - App Issues
Microsoft has acknowledged this problem and an update is set for later this month to help fix it. Players have reported problems with a few media apps, screenshots, and playing DVDs and BluRays. When trying to watch DVDs, players have reported getting a black screen.
The same happens when trying to watch BluRays. Microsoft has stated that a fix for screenshots and recordings is coming, but a fix for the app issues has yet to be talked about. Along with this, it seems nobody has come up with a fix for it.
6 PS5 - Rest Mode Crash
Players have reported a huge error with the PS5 that can lead to the system being bricked. This error happens when putting the system into rest mode. Players have reported that putting the console into rest mode causes the system to crash. After the crash, the database must be rebuilt. During this time is when the critical error can occur that bricks the console. Disabling rest mode helps prevent this problem from happening. Hopefully, Sony can resolve this issue quickly before too many people are affected.
5 Xbox Series X - Smart Delivery and Quick Resume
Players have discovered two problems that Microsoft may be fixing soon. Reports have come in that state that the Smart Delivery system has been causing the system to believe a game is not fully installed. To go along with this issue, some players have reported that games have not been quick resuming correctly. It is reported that some of the affected games have had quick resume disabled on them to help with the issue until it is fixed.
4 PS5 - Loud Humming
The PS4 had this issue at one point. The problem had to do with an issue with the fan. Players have now reported a similar hum coming from the PS5. This has caused some concern, but it doesn't appear to be a massive issue. Sony hasn't made any statements about the issue yet, but players have grown less and less concerned about the issue as time has gone on. The top theory about the issue is that it is due to "coil whine."
3 Xbox Series X - Game Launch Issues
An error message has been popping up whenever players are launching a game. This error gives a code and says "something went wrong." No permanent fixes have come out to fix the issue, but players have reported that the problem is fixed for some time after deleting and reinstalling the game.
This isn't a major problem, but Microsoft should take care of it to help players get access to their games.
2 PS5 - Camera Not Connecting
Players have reported receiving an error message when trying to use the Playstation Camera. Sony has reached out about this issue and has a help guide online for players to follow. The help guide tells players to use the dedicated adapter that the camera requires. It then says to review the settings of the camera, use it in a bright room, and adjust the camera to make sure it is in a good position. Hopefully, the guide helps players get some use out of their cameras.
1 Xbox Series X - Xbox 360 Game Issues
Some Xbox 360 compatible games have reportedly been kicking players back to the home screen upon launch. Some have said that this issue can be fixed by simply reinstalling the game, but no absolute fix has come out for the problem. Microsoft hasn't mentioned the problem yet either which has some players worried. Hopefully, this issue will be fixed shortly so players have access to their Xbox 360 library again.
