A survey conducted by Experience12 has provided valuable insight into which games and consoles gamers are planning to buy next.

In the week from June 25 to July 2, 3000 UK respondents via MCM Comic-Con online channels indicated whether they were interested in purchasing a next-gen game console and when. Respondents who identified as male made up 58% of the population, while 38% answered as female, 2% were nonconforming, and 1% indicated they were transgender. 32% of the respondents were aged 18-24, 48% were 25-34, and 20% were over 35. The survey also asked respondents what their current console of choice was. 59% said they use the PlayStation 4, 16% like Xbox One, 14% gravitate toward PC, and 8% stick to the Switch.

The PlayStation 5 was the most anticipated upcoming release, with 85% of respondents naming it as the game console they were most excited about. Even with over half of the respondents saying they use the PS4, the anticipation around the PS5 is significant. With rumors about the Playstation 5's features bouncing all over the Internet, it's not surprising that the console is at the top of these gamers' shopping lists.

Only 15% of respondents named the Xbox Series X as their first pick. The disparity between the rivals could be because of Microsoft's strategy to continue making games compatible with the Xbox One, although it has decided to discontinue production of the Xbox One X console, so sales of the Xbox Series X is bound to provide long-term revenue as gamers have to trade in for new equipment.

Encouragingly, 37% of respondents said they intended to buy their console of choice 'at launch,' while 9% wanted to have their console within a month. 12% would get theirs within three months, and 26% would purchase their game console within six months of launch. Console sales have taken a hit as of late, but that is likely to be the anticipation for the launch of the 8th gen consoles.

When asked about their most anticipated games, the number one pick by a whopping 43% was Cyberpunk 2077, followed by Marvel's Avengers, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 Remaster, Dying Light 2, and Halo Infinite.

Readers should take note that because the survey was of UK respondents only, it does not necessarily apply to gamers' spending habits in neither the Asia-Pacific region nor the Americas.
