All kinds of tragedies have befallen the most recent generation of console gaming. From global computer chip shortages to the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic to even the persistence of greedy scalpers, both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X remain coveted systems among many fans. Few manage to finally get their hands on either one.

Despite the low availability from other retailers, tech gaming company GameStop still got its hands on a limited stock of both systems, offering them as parts of digital bundles that came with games, gift cards, or extra controllers. Of course, the prices were steep, starting at $600 for a PS5 bundle and going as high as $745, and an Xbox Series X bundle that was sold for $745.

Within an hour of being reported as available, the entire stock was sold out. Those who have been waiting for the opportunity to get their hands on either system didn't hesitate at all to add the consoles to their cart. Granted, the IRS is also still sending out stimulus checks, so some gamers were probably more than prepared to spend the cash.

It's not too surprising that GameStop was able to restock the two consoles, given that the company was able to do so roughly a month ago. Back then, the retailer advised fans via promotional email to be ready to go at a moment's notice, so seeing the limited stock go within the hour was expected. Now that the company has managed to somewhat deliver on two occasions and in a short time span, they may have the spotlight from any fans looking to make the big buy.

GameStop was already experiencing a renaissance as a gaming retailer. The company just saw a huge leadership change, and most recently began headhunting for a new CEO. Predating all of that was the Reddit stock craze, which saw share prices for GameStop experience record-breaking highs, and essentially revitalize the company. Its biggest move won't be restocking on this generation of consoles, but that it happens to be among the quickest to do so is far from a bad thing.

Then again, gamers could try their hands at purchasing PS5s and Xbox Series Xs from retailers in other markets, though the even higher price tags might dissuade even the most die-hard console fans. Even so, the wait for a better console isn't entirely a bad thing. As it stands, both systems don't have the full roster of games that take advantage of their capabilities yet. By the time players can get their hands on either, they'll likely have even more cool features to experience.
