The next-generation consoles have players excited and it is not surprising given the impressive specifications for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. However it seems that PC gamers will be able to get their hands on the technology that both consoles have boasted before they are even released. At least that is what the latest statement from tech developer AMD suggests.

The AMD RDNA 2 products are set to release this fall and it will be an incredibly powerful graphics processing units and cards. Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will use the same technology by AMD although the GPU nicknamed Big Navi will only offer limited insight into how the next generation of consoles will operate and the visuals they will produce. While the reveal of the Unreal Engine 5 showcased impressive graphics for the PlayStation 5, many will be interested to see what can be seen with an even more impressive graphics card that uses similar architecture.

The CFO of AMD, Devinder Kumar, has stated "There's a lot of excitement for Navi 2, or what our fans have dubbed as the Big Navi!" The CFO went on to explain that the entire scope of products that are compatible with the RDNA 2 graphic card products are "on track to launch our next-generation Zen 3 CPUs and RDNA 2 GPUs in late 2020." This likely means that PC players can begin experiencing significantly better graphics from the fall onwards while console gamers wait. Despite the Xbox Series X reportedly obtaining PC parity, the fact that more powerful graphics cards that haven't been tweaked to suit a console are available, will likely mean that the PC versus console debate will continue.

next gen graphics

It is important to note that graphics cards such as this, which are more impressive than what is available on consoles, will likely be very expensive and compete with other graphics cards that sell for over $1,000. With this in mind, some players will not mind having a later released console that uses the architecture differently. Many will use arguments based around graphics to claim that a game is better on a different platform but there are also other factors at play including which platform a game was built for.

While graphics are important, the PlayStation 4 illustrated that exclusive games sway consumers as well. With this in mind, some players will not mind missing out on the best possible visuals, if they can have unique experiences that build on the quality of the generation. However, some PC gamers will be very excited about this Fall when they can update their graphic processing units for what will likely be a considerable improvement.
