The PS5 and Xbox Project Scarlett are both set to be released in the holiday season of 2020. Naturally, players are keen to find out which console has the best features, exclusives, and of course hardware. While loyal fans of Sony and Microsoft are unlikely to be swayed from their respective consoles, many will wait for details about the consoles before making a decision. Jason Schreier, the news editor at Kotaku, has shed some light on how the consoles match up against each other.

The PS4 reigned supreme in this generations console war. This wasn't too surprising, as the console had incredible exclusives, a solid marketing campaign, and continued PlayStation's incredible legacy. The Xbox One, on the other hand, has struggled with exclusives and had a mixed reception due to its announcement as a multi-media console. However, the specs of both consoles were impressive and this looks to be the case in the next generation.

Jason Schreier tweeted that both consoles have "similar specs" and "both sound very powerful". The consoles appear to be matched but interestingly the tweet stated that the PS5 is attempting to be as "accessible as possible" getting rid of load times in the process. Whether the Project Scarlett will use its specs to push into a similar direction will be interesting, at the moment rumors are dominating headlines about the new consoles and there is plenty yet to be confirmed. However, players have had some insight into games that will be coming to the consoles.

There have already been high-profile games announced for the next generation. It has been confirmed that Halo: Infinite will be available on Xbox Scarlett at launch, while the PS5 also has exclusives like the Last of Us 2 in order to tempt players. Many will hope that both consoles can provide plenty of exclusives to reward their purchase and it will be interesting to see how much of a factor these kinds of games have in the next generations console war.

There are plenty of facts about hardware emerging about the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett, whether their specs lead to sales or damage the brands will become clear when players get the consoles. The last generation saw a focus on exclusives and both consoles are promising strong offerings. Whether Last of Us 2 or Halo: Infinite sways players remains to be seen. What is certain is that both consoles will have the power to play both games effectively.
