On November 29, PlayStation announced that PS5 players can take part in official video game tournaments via a new console feature that launched this week. As part of the feature's launch, PS5 players will also be eligible to compete in up to three compatible games to win cash and PlayStation peripherals for a limited time.

Between the upcoming December PS Plus games and new collectible rewards added via PlayStation Stars point redemption, the buzz around Sony's console continues to build. Despite still being hard to find after two years on the market, inventories of the PS5 are slowly but steadily becoming more available to customers via PlayStation Direct and other reputable retailers. Those that currently have a PS5 will have plenty to sink their time into via the features and events that the console can host.

Starting on December 1 and running through January 31, PS5 players can take part in tournaments in Guilty Gear Strive, NBA 2K23, or FIFA 23 directly from their console and compete in the Win-A-Thon tournament program. The program was created to celebrate the launch of the PS5 tournament feature. The top players per region will earn prizes including cash, a new DualSense Edge controller, or a Pulse 3D headset. According to the Win-A-Thon rules, the top eight players in Guilty Gear Strive will earn a DualSense Edge controller, while those that place ranked 9th through 16th in a given region will earn a Pulse 3D headset.

In addition, more prizes will be available for Guilty Gear Strive players that excel on the battlefield. At a later date, the "Guilty Gear Strive: Win-A-Thon Final" will be held. Eligible players that place in the top 64 of their regional leaderboard will be invited to take part in a traditional bracket-style tournament for further cash prizes. However, to participate in all these tournaments, all prospective players must be 18 or older and have an active PlayStation Plus subscription of any tier. The Win-A-Thon is not available in Japan, Croatia, Argentina, Turkey, Russia, North Korea, and Malta.

To further facilitate the tournament feature Playstation also announced the launch of a new community Discord server dedicated to PlayStation Tournaments. Earlier this year, it was reported that both the PS4 and PS5 would receive Discord integration in future console firmware updates. Whether the timing of this Discord server has anything to do with a potential integration or not remains to be seen. PlayStation stated in closing that more games and tournaments will be added to the feature over time. In the meantime, PS5 players that wish to test their skills can check out PlayStation Tournaments and see how they stack up to the competition in the arena of their choice.
