Hype for the next generation is heating up and this summer has been an opportunity for the PlayStation 5 to show why it is looking to win the console wars. Along with showing off its hardware, Sony also put out a showcase showing off a bunch of exclusives coming to the console.

Since then, there have also been other games announced for the console, whether its games available at launch or sometime in the next few years. Regardless, there is plenty to be excited about for PlayStation fans, and here's a look at the top 10 games that have people wishing the console could come sooner.

10 Gran Turismo 7

A good game to get a glimpse of what a console can do graphically is a realistic racing simulation and Gran Turismo 7 is that game for the PlayStation 5. The eighth installment in the Gran Turismo series will bring back many features that players know, from driving school to championships, and showing a menu system that is similar to Gran Turismo 4. The trailer for the game showed the view of driving from the cockpit along with an early example of the ray-tracing hardware implemented into the new console.

9 Stray

Not much was revealed when Stray was announced in the showcase, but more details have come to light over the last month. Players will take on the role of a stray cat living amongst robots in a city that is slowly dying. This adventure game gives players the task of solving mysteries about the area in order for the stray cat to find their way home. The cat even makes a friend along the way as a drone follows the cat around, also trying to find a way out. It seems like a unique game that people will have fun logging many hours in.

8 Returnal

One of the more eerie games announced for the console, Returnal is a roguelike third-person shooter that features an astronaut stuck in an alien world. If that wasn't tough enough, the astronaut has to relive her first moments on the planet after each time she dies, implying that the world regenerates after her demise. The game seems like a psychological thriller as well, with the trailer implying that there will be flashbacks and times where all she can do is live with her own thoughts as she traverses a deep and scary foreign world.

7 Bugsnax

Putting aside the theme song that got stuck in everyone's head for the last month, Bugsnax looks like it's going to be a strange yet fun adventure on an island where "you are what you eat." Known as Snaktooth Island, the area is filled with over 100 of these "Bugsnax" and the job of the player is to find as many as they can and feed the locals.

The trailer showed there may be some dark secrets to the island, and we later learned that the player was driven to the island by an explorer who they later learn has gone missing while adventuring in the area.

6 Far Cry 6

Far Cry 6 was not announced during the summer showcase but is nonetheless one of the highly-anticipated games of the next generation, coming out in February 2021. The newest installment will take place on a fictional Caribbean Island that is ruled by dictator Antón Castillo. Players will take on the role of Dani Rojas, a soldier who is trying to fight for the island's freedom. It is not exclusive to the PlayStation 5, but it won't be surprising to see plenty of Far Cry fans picking the game up for it.

5 Resident Evil Village

It's always exciting when a new Resident Evil game is in the works, and the creatively titled Resident Evil Village looks like it's going to take on a new twist in the already twisted horror game. Set a few years after the events of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Ethan Winters returns as the main protagonist trying to find answers to the actions of Chris Redfield, who drops in on his life again. Ethan finds a mysterious village in Europe where Redfield is at but is met with chaos and a disturbing series of events.

4 Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Marvel's Spider-Man was one of the best PlayStation 4 exclusives, so it was exciting to see a second installment in the series announced starring Miles Morales, who was frequently involved in the first game and is best known for being the lead character in the film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

This installment will take place a year after the first game. Morales has become used to his powers and is now focusing on defending his hometown of Harlem from an ongoing war between corporations and criminals.

3 Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet and Clank are back again as one of the most iconic franchises in Sony history will make its debut in the next-generation with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The story revolves around rifts in time that have opened up, causing Ratchet and Clank to be separated and Ratchet to do a lot of dimension-jumping. The game will be taking advantage of the PlayStation 5's DualSense controller, with Ratchet being able to shoot at different frequencies based on the tension of the controller's triggers. The first trailer was wild, so who knows how crazy the game will get?

2 Demon's Souls

The game that started the popular Dark Souls series is getting a remake for the PlayStation 5. Demon's Souls is an action RPG that originally came out for the PlayStation 3 back in 2009. 11 years later, it was announced during the PlayStation 5 showcase that Bluepoint Games will be rebooting the game, bringing players back to the world of Boletaria. The question will be how much of the original game is preserved and will any mechanics newly introduced in the Dark Souls series influence how Demon's Souls is recreated.

1 Horizon: Forbidden West

It was the closing game of the PlayStation 5 showcase for good reason. Horizon Zero Dawn wowed players with its story, visuals, and overall gameplay. The action roleplaying game was destined to get a sequel, and Horizon Forbidden West will be looking to hit the PlayStation 5 in 2021. The game will once again follow Aloy on her journey west and will include new enemies to fight and new biomes to discover. Some landmarks will include the ruins of San Francisco and Yosemite. Another adventure in this post-apocalyptic world is among the best the PlayStation 5 will offer.
