Sony is planning another big event featuring PS5 exclusives and fans could get to watch it soon, reveals a new leak. The information comes just as the Xbox team has announced its own Xbox Games Showcase for the Xbox Series X, where it is expected to show several games from first-party Xbox developers.

Eurogamer news editor Tom Phillips today reminded PlayStation fans that Sony is planning to hold its own PS5 "State of Play" event in August, not long after the Xbox Games Showcase on July 23. Phillips also shared that that PS5 State of Play will feature first and third-party content and that it feels like the company "quite smartly held some stuff back" after its blowout PS5 reveal event last month.

The journalist didn't suggest when in August that the PS5 event would be held, but it's possible that Sony itself hasn't decided upon a date. Fans famously begged Sony to give them news about the PS5 event and a journalist revealed that Sony delayed the PS5 reveal event several times over concerns about it having a work from home feel. Sony may also want to wait until the Xbox Games Showcase before choosing a date for its own event, to see just how quickly it needs to fire back with PS5 announcements to steal the other console's thunder.

The leak also doesn't confirm which games fans should expect to see at the next PS5 event. However, there are several highly rumored titles that did not make an appearance at the last PS5 event. One of these is the rumored PS5 exclusive Silent Hill reboot which has been talked about by leakers for some time. While the rumored timeline for this game announcement keeps on changing, leakers seem adamant that the game does exist and that Sony will be the one to announce it.

Fans may see the announcement of God of War 2 too as several Santa Monica Studio developers have been teasing the game on social media for a while. One of these is God of War game director Cory Barlog, who joked that he's working on a completely different sequel. That seems like an odd way to confirm that a game is happening, but it prompted huge speculation from fans.

The third-party game announcements are a little harder to guess. Sony has forged strong third-party alliances before with companies such as Epic Games, which released PS4-exclusive Fortnite DLC. With Fortnite being a PS5 launch title, it's possible that this partnership will keep going, but other third-party game announcements are largely a mystery.
