The PlayStation 5 is now available worldwide, and even though everyone who wants the latest Sony console has not been lucky enough to secure one, the PS5’s launch has still been huge for Sony. In fact, the company confirmed that the release of the PS5 is the biggest console launch it has ever had.

Via a Twitter post on the official PlayStation account, Sony celebrated the massive launch of the PS5 by showing appreciation for those who purchased the next-gen machine. Per the post, Sony says that it wants “to thank gamers everywhere for making the PS5 launch our biggest console launch ever.” While it is currently unclear how much bigger the PS5’s launch was than other console, it was likely a noticeable difference due to how much Sony had been mentioning the high demand for the system prior to release.

Further, with pre-orders selling out instantly in the US at numerous retailers and the PS5 completely selling out in Japan, a successful launch for Sony’s new system was inevitable. With PlayStation 5 doing so well on launch day and Sony commenting on how “demand for PS5 is unprecedented,” it is not too surprising that some gamers are still desperate to get a console for themselves. Thankfully, they may be in luck, as the rest of the tweet confirms that more waves of PlayStation 5 consoles are on the way.

As said in the same post, “more PS5 inventory will be coming to retailers before the end of the year.” While it is unclear exactly how many more consoles will be available, Sony made it clear that hopeful adopters should “stay in touch” with their local retailers, checking various stores and refreshing websites just like many have been doing already. With multiple stores restocking PS5s for Black Friday, though, the massive day of shopping should be the next opportunity for those without a PlayStation 5 to obtain one of the next-gen systems.

The PlayStation brand has built up quite the dynasty over the years, with numerous popular consoles releasing over the last few decades. While some have been focused on the past, as the PSP began trending on Twitter yesterday, plenty of gamers seem to be looking to the future of the PlayStation brand. With a massively successful launch and an impressive lineup of day one games, the PlayStation 5’s success will likely continue for some time to come.

Whenever the next PlayStation console arrives, be it the PlayStation 6 or some form of mid-generation upgrade like the PS4 Pro, it could have a tough time surpassing the PlayStation 5’s record-breaking launch. As of now, though, the PS5 reigns supreme as the largest Sony console launch ever.
