Back in June, Sony gave PlayStation fans their first look at PlayStation 5 games, while also revealing the console design itself. However, there was still a lot of unanswered questions about Sony's next-generation console, like how much it would cost, and when exactly fans would be able to purchase one. Sony finally answered those questions and much more at its latest PS5 Showcase event, which took place on Wednesday, September 16.

Besides revealing the PlayStation 5 price and release date (and causing mass chaos for those trying pre-order a PS5 for themselves), Sony also used the PS5 Showcase event to show off more games coming to the system. This included some surprise, blockbuster announcements, as well as new looks at games that Sony announced for the PS5 at the previous event.

For those that missed out, here is everything that was announced at the PS5 Showcase event.

Final Fantasy 16 is A Timed Console Exclusive

Sony started things off strong with the shocking reveal of Final Fantasy 16. Based on the Final Fantasy 16 trailer, it appears as though the game will be a return to the franchise's roots in many ways, with a more medieval setting as opposed to the science-fiction settings that have largely dominated recent entries in the series. Not only that, but the characters spoke about "crystals," which were a common plot device in the early Final Fantasy games.

The true bombshell announcement came at the end of the Final Fantasy 16 announcement trailer, though, when Sony confirmed that the game would be a console exclusive for the PlayStation 5. Clarification later came that this meant that Final Fantasy 16 is also eyeing a PC release, and the game is expected to come to Xbox Series X at some point down the line as well, just some time after it launches for PS5.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales Gameplay

Sony followed up its big Final Fantasy 16 announcement with the first good look at Spider-Man: Miles Morales gameplay. Fans were treated to an extended sequence, which more or less confirmed that Spider-Man: Miles Morales will have very similar gameplay to Spider-Man on PS4, albeit with vastly improved visuals. Arguably the most interesting bit of information to come from the Spider-Man: Miles Morales gameplay presentation, though, was the confirmation that The Tinkerer will be the villain in the game.

Some of the more revealing information about Spider-Man: Miles Morales actually came after the PS5 Showcase presentation wrapped up. It was then that the Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition was revealed, alongside the confirmation that the new game is also coming to PS4 as well as PS5. The Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition features a remastered version of Spider-Man for PS5, with improved visuals, three new costumes, and other bonuses.

Harry Potter RPG Finally Announced

Last year, an impressive-looking Harry Potter RPG leaked online, only for nothing to ever be officially announced. Many assumed that the Harry Potter game was set to be announced at Warner Bros.' planned E3 2020 press conference, but when E3 2020 was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, those plans seemingly fell through. However, the Harry Potter RPG, Hogwarts Legacy, was finally announced during the PS5 Showcase, making a big splash with a revealing trailer that showed off impressive-looking visuals, an interesting 1800s setting, and plenty of magical creatures that players will encounter over the course of the game.

Play Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War This Weekend

The Call of Duty franchise has been closely tied to the PlayStation brand these last few years, and the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is no different. The game was well-represented at the PS5 Showcase event, with Raven Software revealing a Black Ops Cold War campaign mission featuring fan favorite characters like Alex Mason and Frank Woods. The gameplay was visually-impressive and well-received online, so Black Ops Cold War has quite a bit of momentum heading into its November release.

However, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War didn't just show campaign mission footage. It was also revealed that fans don't have to wait for the Black Ops Cold War beta to kick off next month to try the game. PS4 gamers can play the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer alpha for free this weekend from September 18 to September 20.

Resident Evil 8 Gets Creepy New Trailer

Capcom was originally expected to show off more Resident Evil 8 in August, but those plans seemingly fell through. Then the company confirmed that Resident Evil 8 would be part of its Tokyo Game Show 2020 presentation, and so few were expecting to get another look at the game during the PS5 Showcase. However, that's exactly what happened, with Capcom revealing its second Resident Evil 8 trailer, showing off a variety of the different supernatural monsters than protagonist Ethan Winters will have to contend with in the game.

Deathloop

Deathloop, from Dishonored's Arkane Studios and Bethesda, was originally going to be available for the PlayStation 5 this holiday season. However, Deathloop was delayed, with no new release date in sight. The game was given an extended new gameplay presentation at the PS5 Showcase, and while a specific release date wasn't nailed down, fans now know that they can expect to play it at some point in the second quarter of 2020.

Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition

One of 2019's most highly-rated games was Devil May Cry 5, and now the game is getting a second lease on life on the PlayStation 5. It was announced at the PS5 Showcase event that Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition will be a PS5 launch title, available for the new console digitally on day one. Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition will bring the original game to PS5, along with some extra content, like making Vergil a playable character.

Oddworld: Soulstorm

The original Oddworld games are closely tied to the PlayStation brand, and so it was fitting to see a new trailer for Oddworld: Soulstorm at the PS5 Showcase event. The trailer was light on new information, but it did give fans a chance to see what the game will look like on the next-generation console.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach

Another game that only got a brief showing during the PS5 Showcase event was Five Nights at Freddy's: Security BreachFive Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach will be a timed-exclusive for PC and PS5, and it will take advantage of the console's ray-tracing capabilities.

Demon's Souls Gameplay

The upcoming Demon's Souls remake from Bluepoint Games is highly anticipated, and PlayStation 5 gamers will be able to play it on day one. Besides confirming that Demon's Souls is a PS5 launch game, Sony also showed off some extended Demon's Souls gameplay, showing off the significant graphical improvements that the new game will bring to the table.

Next-Gen Fortnite

Love it or hate it, Fortnite remains arguably the most popular game in the world, with massive mainstream recognition and millions of players each day. Considering how insanely popular Fortnite is, it's no surprise that the game will be available on the PlayStation 5 on day one. In 2021, Fortnite fans can expect the game to transition to Unreal Engine 5, which should include a host of visual improvements that the next-gen versions of the game will best be able to take advantage of.

PlayStation Plus Collection

Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass gives players instant access to over 100 Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One games on the very first day that they bring their Xbox Series X console home. Sony has answered this with the PlayStation Plus Collection program. Essentially the PlayStation version of Xbox Game Pass, but smaller in scope, PlayStation Plus Collection will make many PS4 exclusives and other popular free to play for PlayStation Plus subscribers on PS5 on day one. Needless to say, this will go a long way in giving the PlayStation Plus subscription service significantly more value.

Price and Release Date

PS5 resellers

Seeing all these PS5 games was impressive, but the main reason why many fans tuned in to the PS5 Showcase event was to learn the PlayStation 5 price and release date. Sony did not disappoint in that regard, confirming that the standard PS5 will cost $499 and the digital edition of the console will cost $399. It also announced that the PS5 release date is Thursday, November 12, two days after the Xbox Series X launch.

Despite promising fans would have advanced notice as to when they could pre-order the PS5, though, many retailers jumped the gun, making PS5 pre-orders go live immediately after the presentation. September 17 was when PS5 pre-orders were supposed to go live, creating quite a bit of chaos and upset fans.
