Announced for September 16, Sony appears to finally be letting players know more about the PlayStation 5 in a new showcase event. What will be on this broadcast is still unclear, with many expecting some huge surprises, however, it seems likely that Sony will use the allotted time to finally announce a firm release date and price point for its highly-anticipated piece of new hardware.

Along with the news that Sony will be talking all things PlayStation 5 in a few days, a new revelation from Reddit seems to point out a particularly interesting naming convention going on over at the major console manufacturer. As pointed out by CataclysmZA, it seems the codenames for the upcoming console are all centered around Shakespeare's plays, with the Reddit user highlighting some of the most notable examples.

It seems the PlayStation 5, as well as its GPU and CPU designs all, came with codenames related to the historical 16th-century English playwright, with many specifically originating from The Tempest. As reported late last year, the codename for the console's devkit was thought to be Prospero, who, for those who haven't read the play, was a powerful wizard and former duke who was usurped and banished to a remote island by his brother. In the play, he uses sorcery to regain his title and restore order. Meanwhile, the PS5's 3D audio uses "The Tempest Engine," seemingly also in a nod to the play.

There's also the discoveries by a hardware leaker by the name of Komachi, who uncovered PlayStation code names titled Oberon, Ardon, and Ariel. Ariel also seemingly originates from The Tempest, with the character aiding Prospero and causing the initial storm after which the play is named, while Ardon refers to the enchanted forest that appears in As You Like It.

Oberon, which apparently is the alias for the actual console itself, refers to the king of the fairies from A Midsummer Night's Dream, and is easily one of the most magically powerful characters in any of Shakespeare's tales. The naming convention is no doubt interesting, while CataclysmZA's breakdown of exactly where the titles originate from and what they could mean is definitely worth a read. Hopefully, fans will get to see more about the console when the Sony showcase debuts early next week. Although the company has confirmed very little about what's going to make an appearance at the show, it seems likely that Spider-Man: Miles Morales will get a huge spot alongside the reveal of the PS5's price tag and release date.
