Next week will see the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles launching across the world. With the launch so close, reviewers have finally been able to provide information regarding the new features for the hardware. One of the points most fans want to know about is the backwards compatibility on the next-gen consoles and how the impressive tech will improve older titles.

As reviewers have started to put numerous games through the stress test, new information is coming out about which titles will get a significant boost. With the PlayStation 5 having 99 percent backwards compatibility according to Sony, it means there are a lot of games that require examination. At least for FromSoftware fans, at least two of the developer's titles will get a boost on the PlayStation 5.

According to early reviews, both 2016's Dark Souls 3 and 2019's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will run at 60 frames per second on the PlayStation 5. This comes as welcomed news for FromSoftware fans who can return to both titles with what will feel like an entirely new way to play. Reports also indicate that both Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro will have reduced load times although no specific time frames have been provided by critics.

While PlayStation fans will be happy to hear about Dark Souls 3's improvements, Xbox Series players have been hit with bad news. Since embargos are up for both machines, reviewers have been able to compare just how well backwards compatibility is handled on both Sony's and Microsoft's hardware. While the third entry in the Dark Souls series will hit the desired 60fps on the PlayStation 5, it seems Dark Souls 3 will be limited to 30fps on Xbox Series X. There are likely more tests to be done to properly compare just how well each actually run, but early signs point to PlayStation 5 players getting the better Dark Souls 3 experience.

With fans happy to hear that two of FromSoftware's most recent titles are utilizing the PlayStation 5 hardware, the news coincides with a downer for others. Alongside confirmation about how Sekiro and Dark Souls 3 will perform on Sony's new hardware, some reviewers confirm that PlayStation 4 exclusive Bloodborne will be limited to 30fps on PS5. This is a considerable blow to fans who were hoping to finally play the game with a better performance. The excitement was so high that fans even made videos predicating how Bloodborne would run on PlayStation 5 with 60fps being the most desired feature. With both Sekiro and Darks Souls 3 able to handle 60fps, fans are speculating why Bloodborne won't.

While the new improvements to Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro are welcomed, most fans of the macro "Souls" genre will have their hands full come launch day. The Demon's Souls remake launches alongside the PlayStation 5 next week finally bringing back a title many thought trapped on the PlayStation 3. Hopefully the difficulty won't lead to brand new DualSenses getting durability tests.

Dark Souls 3 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
