The PS5 hasn't even been officially revealed and it may already be Sony's most successful console to date. At least, according to a report from a sales analyst who has announced a prediction that the console's sales when it releases this Holiday season, the system will sell an incredible number of units.

This analysis comes from Hideki Yasuda from Ace Research Institute, located out of Osaka, who has also made predictions in the past about the probable $500 price point for the new console. However, even with the steep price being rumored to reach fairly high, the veteran analyst still expects for the PS5 to hit 6 million units in the opening months of the systems release.

To put this into perspective, in about that same amount of time when the PS4 originally launched, it only managed to move 4.2 million units, placing the prediction at an extra 1.8 million units worldwide. With PS4 hitting one million consoles in 2019, starting off with 6 million units could possibly find the PS5 sales exceeding that previous record early within its lifetime. However, that doesn't mean that the PS4 is expected to stop shipping consoles before March 2021 either, with the analysis concluding that an equal number of both generations of console will likely ship out after the PS5 launches.

Some of this information may be slightly outdated, as it comes from an analysis made before things like the Coronavirus began effecting worldwide manufacturing. However, considering that previous statements from Sony imply that the PS5 won't be affected by the outbreak, although shortages may affect the PS5's price as demand for specific components has risen in recent months. Regardless, if this type of analysis proves to be within the range of the system's actual sales in its first few months, this could still set the PS5 to quickly become the fastest selling console in history.

Looking at the stellar line of games coming to PS5, as well as some of the high profile developers joining Sony to begin developing titles for the console, it would make sense for the Next-Gen system to sell fairly well. It's generally games that sells systems after all, so having an impressive lineup of titles coming to the highly anticipated system is likely what will put it ahead of competitors. At the moment, this is all still speculation though, even if its professionally analyzed speculation, and Sony will have to wait until the actual release before they can begin confirming how well received the system is.
