Sony's upcoming PS5's launch is slowly making its way from behind closed doors and into the light of day where players can finally get their hands on the new system. However, even though the next-gen console has a release window within the next year, there is little information actually known about the system.

At the time of writing, Sony still has yet to give an official reveal for the PS5, leaving the system's overall design and technical specifications in the realm of speculation. Hopefully one of the next two Sony events in February will be where the company finally reveals the highly anticipated system, although some are still skeptical about how likely the latest rumors are to pan out.

According to a Reddit post, a Sony sponsored event hall in New York has a blacked out date in its scheduling on February 29th, currently marked as a Private Event. Some fans have assumed that since this is a venue with Sony's name on it, and the specific event currently has no name, then this would be a prime opportunity to announce the PS5. With Sony skipping E3 again this year, there aren't any obvious venues or events where the company may be announcing the new system, making this event as likely as any other Sony sponsored event.

Some of the speculation around the likelihood of this event being where Sony will be unveiling the PS5 comes from the fact that while this is a Sony sponsored event hall, the location isn't quite equipped for such an event. For instance, the PS4 was first revealed at the Hammerstein Ballroom, a location with double the capacity of the Sony Hall, allowing for a larger audience of press, developers, and fans to attend the event. Considering how many developers are interested in the PS5 for their latest titles, it would make more sense to hold the reveal event at a location that could attract and hold more people to take an in-depth look at the system and report on its features.

While this February 29th event might not be the exact date of the PS5's reveal, Sony should be showing off its new system soon if the company intends to maintain its commanding lead against the Xbox Series X. It's likely that the recent silence has been due to Sony attempting to distance itself from the reveal of its competitor last month, but if it waits too long, Sony may find it difficult to direct a winning marketing strategy in the relatively short time until launch. However, all any one can do now is cross their fingers and hope to see the PS5 soon.

The PS5 is set to release in Holiday 2020.
