The world has known what the Xbox Series X looks like for months now following Microsoft's official unveiling during The Game Awards in December last year. Since then, Microsoft has continued to pump out information about the upcoming next-generation console from the controller design to the Xbox Series X specifications, and an impressive demonstration of its new Quick Resume feature which will allow players to have up to four games running concurrently. It's Microsoft's clear focus on transparency that's leaving many fans wondering: what exactly is Sony doing with the PS5?

Earlier in the month, Sony's released a 52-minute live-stream where PS5 lead architect Mark Cerny unveiled the consoles design philosophy and technical specs, a presentation originally planned to be for developers at GDC before the conference was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With such limited known about the presentation ahead of time, many believed that this would be the PS5 reveal we've been waiting for, and with no further announcements on the horizon - its hard to know what to expect. That's why the website Let's Go Digital have taken it into its own hands to create a PS5 retail box concept, and if this is anything to go by, fans should certainly be excited.

Based on everything we currently know about PlayStation 5, an Italian designer by the name of Giuseppe Spinelli, aka Snoreyn, has created a concept model for what the PS5 retail box might look like (shown above). The concept model swaps out the previous generations lighter blue and white box design, replacing it with a much darker tone of blue in line with the 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro released in 2018.

Let's Go Digital's concept model also offers a glimpse at what the jet black PS5 and DualShock 5 controller could look like, sharing a number of similarities with the multilayered design of the PS4. Last month, Snoreyn released a 2-minute animated concept for the DualShock 5 on YouTube, which included already announced features such as USB-C charging and haptic feedback, as well as exciting additions like swappable thumbsticks and back buttons in line with that of Microsoft's Xbox Elite Series 2 controller.

With major events like E3 2020 having been cancelled, it's currently unclear exactly when the PS5 will be properly revealed to the world, however, if the design is anything like Snoreyn's concept model then fans have something to look forward to. Sony recently updated the PS5 website with a firm 'Holiday 2020' launch window and have announced that the Coronavirus pandemic will not affect the PS5 release.

The PlayStation 5 is planned to launch Holiday 2020.
