It is now the very early days of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, and reactions are positive. But while features like transferring PS4 save data to PS5 are working fine, there are some flies in the ointment.

Players are starting to report some bugs with both the Xbox Series X and the PS5. In a few cases, these are negligible, but others are more severe, especially in the early console experience. One of the most recent concerns the PS5 freezing during gameplay. Nothing is definite yet, but the reason possibly may be tied to the console's Rest Mode feature.

This is not the first time the bug has been reported. Earlier, it was thought that the Rest and freeze bug was exclusive to Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS5. Now it seems the bug is more widespread. Essentially, players are reporting the PS5 freezing in the middle of gameplay. These crashes are severe enough to require a complete restart of the console. As of this article, there has been no response from Sony regarding the issue, but players have begun hunting for a connection between incidents. The most likely at the moment seems to be the PS5's Rest feature.

The Rest Mode feature is a convenience feature built into the PS5 as an alternative to shutting it off. It draws little power and allows background tasks to continue, like downloading games, updates, and charging controllers. While it is the most prominent link between incidents drawn by players on Reddit, it is not the only possible one. Others include using a certain USB port or LAN cable. It is not the only PS5 feature causing problems, as one YouTuber had a review PS5 console die due to a storage glitch.

As of this article, it appears this is definitely a hardware bug and not a game-induced bug. There hasn't been a ton of game-induced bugs on either console yet, which is promising. The most prominent is a recurring controller disconnecting glitch in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

That said, this is not the only serious PS5 bug reported as it hits the market. Some are even more serious, especially the reports of PS5 consoles hitting a download bug with some games. Beyond that, some PS5 consoles already seem to be dying outright, though hopefully, these are all early days problems, coming fast but soon fixed and forgotten in time.
