Today is the day many PlayStation fans have been waiting for as Sony is finally going to be discussing the PlayStation 5 at long last. The reveal could be in response to Microsoft who earlier this week went into detail regarding the Xbox Series X specs, technology, and new features powering the console. While Sony hasn't revealed everything it's going to be talking about today during its deep dive of the PS5, many fans are hoping for pricing information as well as a potential release date in 2020 after pandemic fears have seemingly put that in doubt.

Speculation and rumor continue to paint a picture that next generation consoles like the PlayStation 5 won't be making a 2020 release as originally thought due to the current global pandemic. However, the Dutch website LetsGoDigital is now pushing back on the release date delays by saying that the coronavirus has not yet caused a delay, even if fans don't yet know an actual date. Still, fans should take this news with a grain of salt until Sony officially speaks on the matter.

The assurances come from a discussion the site had with an Amsterdam PR agency that represents Sony Interactive Entertainment Benelux, who confirmed with them that the mysterious date is still set for 2020. Naturally, things are still pretty fluid so this could still change as the Holiday season is still quite a ways off and both consoles still have a number of different required components during this production phase.

Part of the uncertainty is likely a direct result of how big of an impact the virus has had on the entertainment industry in general. Many TV Shows and Movies have had their productions postponed due to the pandemic including the second season of The Witcher. In fact, one of its new cast members has recently tested positive for the virus as well. Movies scheduled for release this month, in April, and even later this year have started to be moved or delayed entirely as well.

Whatever the case may be, for now, Sony is moving full steam ahead with the first phase of its plan going live today. PS5 lead architect Mark Cerny is giving fans a deep dive look into the console which should go a long way to answering many lingering question that people have. It's possible the oft rumored controller will also be shown and perhaps many of the potential leaked features will also be showcased as well.
