Earlier today, rumors began swirling around the internet suggesting that the PS5 price and release date reveal would be happening today. Not only that, but pre-orders for the next-gen console would be going live, allowing fans to go ahead and get their money on the PS5. The best part of this PS5 price and release date rumor is that it came from a semi-reliable source, even providing it with a specific time.
Nonetheless, as these rumors come at a dime-a-dozen, nothing manifested. While information pages are live in more places than seemingly before, Sony did not confirm the PS5 price and release date as predicted. However, Call of Duty leaker Tom Henderson, who has been reliable in the past, tweeted out something interesting just 13 minutes before it was supposed to happen.
PS5 Pre-orders are not live as many hoped, but according to Henderson, it'll retail at $499. He doesn't mention the digital edition, but he does mention the release date as November 20. He also says it'll release 6 days sooner, November 14, in Japan. Outside the timing, though, there's nothing to back up Henderson's claims but his reputation. It's within the right time frame that many expect, but it could just be a guess, meant to come before today's supposed reveal.
Aside from the DualSense controller, fans got their first glimpse at the PS5 console and a slew of its games on June 11. This means that barely a month has passed between console and games reveal to today, so again, not a surprise. And it's worth pointing out that the Xbox Series X console has been known about since December, yet a full-blown game showcase has yet to happen—it is currently scheduled for July 23rd.
It's uncertain what Microsoft's or Sony's plans are, but the game of price chicken has to come to end eventually. After all, Phil Spencer has already said he's confident with the Xbox Series X, but what that is remains to be seen. For now, the wait for next-gen information continues.
