Sony recently confirmed that the PlayStation 5 is indeed in active development, revealing some of the console's features, like its backward compatibility with PS4 games in the process. However, there is still a lot we don't know about what the PlayStation 5 will have in store, like the PS5 price point and release date, but one analyst has offered his predictions.

Ace Research Institute analyst Hideki Yasuda has revealed that his PS5 price prediction is $500, and he believes that the console will launch in November 2020. Yasuda predicts that the PS5 will focus on fixing the flaws of the PS4 (like its lack of backward compatibility, for instance), as well as delivering powerful hardware. Yasuda doesn't believe that cloud streaming services like Google Stadia will be a threat to the PS5, and so he thinks the console will sell quite well, predicting around 21 million units sold by March 31, 2022.

While Yasuda's PS5 price prediction is just that - a prediction - it does make a great deal of sense. After all, the PS5 is said to be a very powerful machine, and even though November 2020 is still quite a ways off, it's hard to imagine that the console will be priced less than $500.

ps5 price point and release date prediction

Then again, there are some analysts that believe the PS5 will be cheaper than expected. For example, Pelham Smithers of the Pelham Smithers Associates market research firm believes that, depending on the CPU the PS5 uses, it will retail for $399 instead, which is a full $100 cheaper than Yasuda's PS5 price prediction.

While there is some debate about the PS5 price point, the November 2020 release date for the PS5 seems to be the general consensus. Sony itself has confirmed that the PS5 won't release within the next 12 months, and while it's not unprecedented to release a video game console in spring or summer, consoles usually launch in the fall.

If the PS5 is indeed slated for a November 2020 release date as many analysts have predicted, then fans should expect to learn more concrete details about the console at E3 2020. These details would most likely include a price point, so we should know around this time next year what the PS5 price will be.
