With the Xbox Series X showing off a number of incredible videos over the last few days, all eyes turned to what the PlayStation 5 would show in the wake of its impressive competition. Expectations only grew when Sony announced that it would indeed be streaming a brand new "deep-dive" into the PlayStation 5 for today, March 18, with many assuming the company would finally display its next mainline console. However, it appears the highly-anticipated stream didn't go down as many expected.

As many social media users will no doubt have noticed over the last hour, PlayStation 5 has launched its way up the trending tab, with thousands of fans tweeting about the deep-dive that recently took place on YouTube. Unfortunately, very few of the comments are positive, with many labeling the stream as a dull waste of time that was more concerned with highlighting specs than showcasing what they will mean for the console.

A number of users - who had woken up early to catch the stream - posted gifs signifying the dull presentation was putting them to sleep, while far more simply tweeted or commented "Z's" in response to the broadcast. Outside of those simply claiming the stream was boring to watch, many criticized the major console provider for spending such a lengthy amount of time highlighting the SSD of the console, with numerous fans claiming it was a waste of time when there were so many more topics surrounding the console that needed to be discussed.

Alongside that, a number of fans made the suggestion that the PlayStation 5 was less powerful than the Xbox Series X, claiming that the stream had made them want to purchase an Xbox Series X instead of Sony's next mainline console. This is only got worse when Sony seemingly confirmed that only PlayStation 4 games would be backward compatible on the PlayStation 5, with a significant portion of fans immediately expressing their outrage at the fact that PlayStation 1, 2, and 3 games would be completely left out of the shuffle. Evidently this was a very important feature for an overwhelming number of fans, with many using Twitter to vocalize their outrage that Sony wouldn't include such a highly-demanded feature.

Overall, it appears fans are growing weary with PlayStation's tight-lipped approach to revealing its next major console. While there's undeniably a lot of merit in the idea of revealing the console's extensive specifications and how they will make the PlayStation 5 a significantly more powerful piece of hardware in the long run, it's clear right now, fans are more eager to see the console in action. For those disappointed with the stream, it's worth remembering that it was used to replace GDC, so PlayStation will likely deliver a more fan-focused reveal later this year.

The PS5 remains planned for release in holiday 2020.
