This generation of consoles seems to be winding down, and fans will likely be playing on brand new systems soon. This has led to a lot of speculation as to what the next console generation will look like internally. Now, Marc-André Jutras, a games industry veteran with more than 15 years of experience under his belt, has stated what he believes the PS5 and next Xbox will look like power-wise.

Recently, Jutras claimed that the next generation of systems won't be as big of a leap as many people believe it will be. Instead of the beefy 16 GB of RAM that some people have speculated for the consoles, Jutras believes it will most likely be a more modest 8-12 GB, as many games simply don't use that much RAM. Jutras also believes that the PS5 and next Xbox could use Ryzen 2600 processors, or something similar to them, due to their stability, core count, and relatively low cost.

However, the next generation of consoles will likely see a large increase in VRAM, according to Jutras, with the systems likely boasting 8 GB of dedicated VRAM to support 4K gaming at a reasonable frame rate as opposed to the unified memory the systems currently utilize. It's also worth noting that the next Xbox is rumored to have multiple levels and price points, and it's unclear which level would feature specs like these.

Jutras' predictions are in stark contrast to those that industry analyst Michael Pachter made just a few days ago when he predicted that the consoles will support 4K gaming at 240 FPS. However, Jutras' claims are much more reasonable, as gaming at a 4K resolution with 240 FPS is something that even the highest-end PCs are still unable to accomplish, and any system that powerful would likely cost thousands of dollars.

Whether gamers choose to believe Jutras, Pachter, or draw their own conclusions is up to them. Nevertheless, it may not be too much longer until they have a definitive idea of the type of console hardware to come. The PS5 and Xbox are both rumored to be announced in 2019, with launches possibly happening sometime in 2020. What the consoles will look like is still anyone's guess, though, as just about every drastic hardware change imaginable has been rumored up to this point.

The PS5 and next Xbox have yet to officially be unveiled.
