It's the year that console gaming will be entering the next generation. Sony has been getting fans ready by showing off bits and pieces of the Playstation 5 over the course of 2020. As of mid-July, fans know what the console looks like and the general specs. They just don't know the cost.

While the world waits to hear what the price tag will be, it is worth looking at what the PS5 has to offer. Companies tend to oversell their products in an effort to convince consumers that they must get it. So what seems to be worth the hype and what doesn't?

10 Console Design (Overrated)

This is the easy choice as the internet had a bit of a field day poking fun at the Playstation's complete makeover, with most noting that it looks like a router. Despite the jokes had by all, the design isn't terrible. It will probably look really cool on a shelf next to the television. But considering the design would be a selling point for the console, the PS5 doesn't look all that extraordinary compared to its previous installments, with only the shell that looks like a popped-collar really standing out as "new."

9 SSD (Amazing)

Speaking of selling points, Playstation fans have probably heard the phrase "SSD" a few thousand times since the specs were revealed. There's a very good reason for that as the 852-gigabyte SSD in the console will allow for faster processing while allowing developers to build more depth to their worlds. The Playstation 5 will also allow players to install games the way they want to, which allows parts of the games players won't play to not take up space. Faster loading times is what people wanted, and the SSD does this and more.

8 External Storage (Overrated)

For those who are worried about running out of space due to large game files, there are options for external storage, but they aren't great. Firstly, the Playstation 5 will have USB HDD support, but this will only be for Playstation 4 games as PS5 games may have trouble running on these drives. For extra space solely for PS5 games, the system will have an expandable storage space with an NVMe SSD slot. However, the PCIe 4.0 interface required to store these games are not in current NVMe PC drives yet and will likely be expensive once some do come out.

7 Graphics (Amazing)

It is no question that the Playstation 5 graphics were going to be a massive upgrade over its predecessor, but Sony seems to be living up to the hype with how good games seem to look. Along with how fast the SSD makes games run, the AMD Custom RDNA 2 serves as the system's GPU, similarly to the Xbox Series X.

Fans got a chance to see these graphics in action with the Unreal Engine 5 presentation back in May, which showed amazing lighting, textures and movement on the Playstation 5.

6 Digital Edition (Overrated)

The June Playstation 5 event revealed that there would be two versions of the Playstation 5 coming out. One of these was a slimmer digital edition console, which removed the 4K Blu-ray drive for those who aren't expected to buy any hard copies of their games. Digital Edition consoles seem unnecessary considering that the price won't go down that much. Plus, the console doesn't look much different from the other and the specs are all the same, so is it really worth saving a little bit of money just to get rid of the disc drive?

5 3D Audio (Amazing)

Audio is an underrated element of the gaming experience, and Playstation is rolling out 3D audio compatibility with the Tempest Engine. This allows games to create hundreds of sounds all around the player to really liven up the atmosphere of the game. The release of the console will also come with the release of the Pulse 3D wireless headset, enhancing the 3D experience for players. But even with a mediocre set of headphones, players will experience game sounds like they never have before.

4 Controller (Overrated)

The controllers are a significant focus for these console companies as they want players to feel good while playing. The DualSense PS5 controller is innovative in a few ways, such as haptic feedback in the L2 and R2 shoulder buttons. However, the two-tone color of the controller is a bit divisive and the lack of color for its main action buttons strips some iconic identity from the Playstation brand. It'll likely be a fine controller to use for the console, but it is far from the greatest controller ever created.

3 HD Camera (Amazing)

Another accessory that won't necessarily come with the PS5, but will certainly leave an impact. According to a report by The Verge, the camera is expected to have dual sensors that are 1920 by 1080, a massive upgrade over the PS4's camera.

This is a big deal when it comes to the Playstation VR, as one of the major problems with PSVR right now is that the camera has poor detection. A wider camera for the PS5 can make the PSVR more stable and shows a bright future for a potential PSVR2.

2 Backwards Compatability (Overrated)

One of the top questions before any new console announcement is whether or not the system will be backwards compatible with older games. So far, fans know that they will be able to play a "majority" of the more than 4,000 PS4 games out there. However, there is a question as to which ones are not going to work on the next-gen console. To the disappointment of many, it is also likely that this feature will not include old school Playstation games, barring remakes or Sony adopting Nintendo's "Virtual Console" concept.

1 Game Line-Up (Amazing)

Gaming systems don't exist without the games, and Playstation 5 brought the house down with its game reveals in their June presentation. Among the major titles is Horizon: Forbidden West, a sequel to the widely-successful Horizon: Zero Dawn. For the old school crowd, there will also be a remake of Demon Souls coming out on the console. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Spider-Man: Miles Morales round out the bigger names announced, but those were just the tip of the iceberg. The games alone will help sell the console.
