As the holiday season approaches, gamers will slowly learn more about the PS5 and Xbox Series X, the two next-gen consoles coming from Sony and Microsoft. While Sony has been the de facto winner of this console generation in terms of sales, with the company recently announcing some significant milestones for the PS4, the next generation is a chance for Microsoft to even the playing field. However, it may already be behind in terms of exclusives.

Speaking on Splitscreen, Kotaku's Jason Schreier claimed to know some of the PS5 launch titles. Schreier didn't reveal the actual names of the games, instead saving them to "report on that stuff for the future," though there should also be some cross-platform launches, like the rumored Viking-themed Assassin's Creed.

“I haven’t heard anything about Xbox first-party games, but I’m sure their stuff is going to be, as usual, on as much stuff as possible," Schreier stated about the Xbox Series X,  "Actually they already said that Halo Infinite is going to be cross-gen, so, Microsoft I’m sure will be a lot less about exclusives."

This news likely won't come as a big surprise for those that been following Microsoft's exclusive philosophy. The company has taken to putting its games on both the Xbox One and PC, and it seems that when the Series X launches, that will remain the same, with each platform getting support. Xbox Series X is set to have thousands of games at launch thanks to backward compatibility, though.

Ultimately, new games coming to each platform is a very pro-consumer move on the part of one of the biggest gaming companies on the planet. It may not convince many to purchase a Series X, but it's still cool to see. It gives players that want better graphics the ability to play the games on better hardware while allowing those content with their current systems the ability to play new releases without spendy hardware. Plus, new consoles are typically sold at a loss at launch, so it may even be the better play on Microsoft's part.

It'll be interesting to see what Sony brings to the plate when it finally debuts the PS5. There have been some legit-looking PS5 images circulating recently, though gamers won't know what the console actually looks like until the reveal event.
