If recent leaks are any indication, Sony is preparing to announce more information regarding the PlayStation 5 in a relatively short time. It's fitting then that some of those new PS5 details are starting to leak themselves. The latest news comes from a vetted industry source, who claims that fans should be expecting more than just PS5 news soon. They claim that Sony is working on a second console that will offer a more affordable, similar to what Xbox has offered this generation.

The news comes from NeoGaf user VFXVeteran, who has privately vetted their industry experience with the NeoGaf staff. They apparently don't have first-hand knowledge of Sony's consoles, but "heard" the news. The news being that Sony, as well as Microsoft, has two consoles in development.

Regarding Sony's specific plans, VFXVeteran has just a handful of details. They say that the long-rumored 9-teraflop PS5 will be the base model of the console. Sony's second console isn't less than that, however, but rather a step up from that. "Their other one is also top of the line to compete with XSX top dog," is how the console is characterized. Exactly how powerful this console is remains mysterious, but it might explain why there are so many rumors that Sony's top model is more powerful than Microsoft's top model.

The only other bit of leaked information that VFKVeterawn shares about the more powerful PS5 model is about its price. They say that the "top of the line models" for both Sony and Microsoft "will be expensive." An exact price isn't referenced, but they predict a $600 price tag for the PS5+.

From there, VFXVeteran doesn't have any further official information. They do feel comfortable speculating about what comes next, however. They say that while no release date is yet confirmed, they guess that both PS5 models will launch at the same time.

To summarize, according to this leak the PlayStation 5 that several leaks have been related to is actually Sony's next-gen base model. It also, reportedly, has a high-end model PS5 in development that may have a different name. This model is comparable to the Xbox Series X and is said to likely be expensive, perhaps even $600. No release dates are hammered down, but both the base PS5 and the boosted model may come out at the same time.

Expect further details about Sony's PS5 plans in the months to come.
