Sony made it clear it wanted to go big with the PS5 game reveal, and that it did. Sony showcased something for everyone from the Grand Theft Auto 5 port to Gran Turismo 7, big third-party games like Resident Evil 8: Village, and even bigger first-party games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Horizon: Forbidden West. However, it ended on a big note when it revealed the PS5 console design.

Of course, while the two-tone V-shape of the console is somewhat surprising, it's not really given the PS5 DualSense controller design. This implied the two tones of the console, but it still, the next console generation is full of surprises. The Xbox Series X, for example, looks like a PC Tower, while the PS5 went in a totally opposite direction.

There is one big question mark left by the design: can it be laid flat? Many asked the same question of the Xbox Series X due to its design, and many were relieve that the answer was a simple yes. Like the Xbox Series X, it seems that the PS5 can displayed horizontally, but there's a bit of a caveat to that.

The PS5 Can Lay Flat, But There May Be a Catch

Ever since the Xbox 360 if not before, the idea of a vertical console has been pushed by every major company. Usually, though, this requires a console stand, and it's clear the PS5 is no different. It requires a stand to be displayed vertically, likely due to the V-shape design and the way the non-digital version has a bulkier side due to the disc drive. Whereas the Xbox Series X can just be laid down, as seen above in a brief display from the event, there may be a bit of a catch with the PS5.

The PS5's design makes it seem like it can just be laid down without aid, due to the way the console is shaped. The above image shows that there seems to be something under the PS5, meaning it like requires a stand to be displayed in this way as well. Without it, the image makes it seem like the portion with the disc drive would touch the ground before the corner, making for a wobbly console.

At the end of the day, this isn't likely a huge deal to many fans of the console. It's clear from today's reveal that the life blood of the next generation is PS5 games, so while fans may want to keep this in mind when preparing a space for the console, there's definitely more to look forward to than how to display the console.
