There's been quite a lot of talk of console upgrades and pre-orders as of late. With the Nintendo Switch OLED model, the Steam Deck, and PS5 restocks, the talk of console purchases has gotten a headstart ahead of the holiday season. In light of all this news, Japanese retailers are listing new PlayStation 5 Digital Editions with a small upgrade to the hardware.

When consoles and other products are listed on online storefronts, their model numbers are found on all of the listings. The model number for the PS5's Digital Edition thus far has been CFI-1000B, but a new model number, CFI-1100B, has shown up with PDFs detailing just what makes the new model different.

CFI-1100B reportedly is 300 grams lighter than the current PS5 Digital Editions available and uses a different screw at the bottom of the console. The PDF makes it look as if the new screw might be a little more reinforced for more durability. The weight, however, may have come from the designers looking at the design of the older PS5s a bit differently after launch.

After all, it makes sense that the digital edition would be lighter than the version with the disc drive. They may have found a way to streamline the design a bit more so that 300 grams would get taken off the weight. Even though the revision is rather small, it still has fans talking and making jokes about how early it is for any sort of console revisions for households who got one already. "Shame on you, Sony," one jokingly says in the comments.

If there's anything else to be seen from this revision, it isn't apparent just yet. There have been no reports of similar revisions reaching the disk drive versions, so this may just be to make the digital edition just a bit better compared to the previous model currently out there. At the very least those interested can grab the newer PS5 Digital Edition to play games on with the help of the model number.

There's potential that this is one of the first revisions coming to the console out of many more down the line. The fact that they've found improvements to the design already may mean that something else is in the works. Whether this leads to small changes as the PS5 goes through its life cycle, or perhaps a potential PS5 Pro in a few years remains to be seen. Fans will simply have to wait patiently for any further updates to the PlayStation 5.
