To date, there isn't much that we know about the PlayStation 5's software library. In fact, one of the only games that's even been confirmed for the system is the looter-slasher Godfall. However, a new leak may reveal another PS5 game, with this one being a cross-generational battle royale title that has already been available for some time on mobile devices.

A LinkedIn page for a NetEase Games employee shows that the popular battle royale game Knives Out is apparently in active development for both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. To date, Knives Out has only been available on the Switch in Japan and on mobile devices elsewhere in the world. Industry insider Daniel Ahmad claims that the PS4 release is "planned soon," but more specific details are unavailable at this time.

Knives Out may not have the global brand recognition of Fortnite or PUBG, but the game has earned a considerable amount of money since its launch in 2017. It's notable for its large map, even when compared to other battle royale games, though aesthetically it shares a lot in common with PUBG. In fact, the similarities between Knives Out and PUBG were even the subject of a lawsuit at one point.

There was a point when PUBG Corp. filed a lawsuit against mobile clone games, with Knives Out being one of the games targeted. NetEase fired back by claiming that PUBG Corp. was attempting to monopolize the battle royale genre. The two sides came to a settlement earlier this year, though details on that settlement haven't been made public. However, with Knives Out still available to play and apparently looking to release on more platforms in the future, it's clear that NetEase wasn't forced to shut down its game.

As for when games like Knives Out and other titles will be officially confirmed for the PS5, that remains to be seen. Rumor has it that Sony will reveal the PS5 at a February event, though nothing has actually been announced. With the PS5 coming holiday 2020, though, it's highly likely that fans will get their first glimpse at the PS5 and its games in the first half of 2020.

Knives Out is out now on mobile devices and on the Nintendo Switch in Japan.
