Rumors regarding the PlayStation 5 have pointed to Sony revealing the PS5 sometime in February for months now, and for most of that time, those rumors have pointed to February 12 being the day of the big PlayStation Meeting where that will happen. Now the latest claim is suggesting that won’t be the case, but if it turns out to be true, then it’ll be good news for impatient fans.

The imageboard 4chan is known for being the source of many gaming-related leaks. Most of these turn out to be fake, but enough end up being legit that it’s worth taking notice of this latest example. It claims that both the PlayStation Meeting and the PS5’s unveiling will actually take place on February 5, a full week earlier than originally believed. It is then and there that Sony will allegedly reveal the PS5’s official design, along with its controller, the home screen, and a number of “certain features” and “console specs.” The event will also see announcements for PS5 exclusives, and will let gaming press go hands-on with software demos, so fans can expect plenty of coverage following the presentation.

As for which games will be shown at the Meeting, the leak doesn’t say exactly, but it does offer a list of alleged PS5 launch titles that includes Gran Turismo 7, MLB The Show 21, Demon Souls Remastered, Godfall, and a new IP from Sony Santa Monica Studio called Legendz. Additionally, several other major games are teased, including sequels to Horizon Zero Dawn and Marvel’s Spider-Man, new entries in the Crash Bandicoot and Resident Evil series, a new sci-fi IP from Naughty Dog, and Final Fantasy 16.

Aside from all of that, however, the leak also makes claims about the PS5’s launch later this year. Specifically, that the console will launch sometime in October at a price of $499/£449/€449, which the leak says will be $100 less than its competitor, the Xbox Series X. For that price, fans will get the features that have been hinted at for the past year, including reduced load times, modular game installation, and backwards compatibility with all previous PlayStation consoles.

They will supposedly get some exciting extra features as well. These include the ability to transfer downloaded PS4 games and save data to the PS5, support for PS4 controllers and accessories, and the ability to stream games from the console to other devices in a Google Stadia-esque fashion. These potential features do mesh with Sony’s efforts to make the PS5 the most accessible console possible, and if true, they can serve to make the PS5 the “ultimate PlayStation console.”

Then again, they might not. As intriguing as the leak’s claims are, there are some red flags here and there that cast doubt on the whole thing, like the claim that Sony will reveal more about the PS5 at E3. With Sony recently confirming that it’s skipping E3 2020, it’s possible that the rest of the leak’s claims are off the mark as well, though with February 5 just a few weeks away, fans don’t have to wait too long to find out.

The PlayStation 5 launches in holiday 2020.
