By now, most PlayStation 5 fans know that the PS5 has plenty of notable games coming soon, with major titles like Horizon: Forbidden West, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Hitman 3 being just some of the games slated to hit the new console before 2021’s over. But in addition to these highly-anticipated AAA games, players won’t have too long to wait to get their hands on Stray, the game where they play a cat.

CES 2021 is going on right now, and during the virtual event this week, Sony took the opportunity to narrow down the release windows for several upcoming titles, announcing the launch months for a number of 2021-bound PS5 games. Among them was Stray, the debut title from French developer BlueTwelve Studio and one of the next indies to be released by Annapurna Interactive, publisher of such acclaimed games as What Remains of Edith Finch and Outer Wilds.

It’s been known since Stray’s announcement last June that the game would launch in 2021, but now it’s confirmed that it’s slated to launch sometime in October. This makes it one of two PS5 games that were confirmed to be launching that month during CES, the other being Bethesda and Tango Softworks' supernatural action-adventure game, Ghostwire: Tokyo.

Unfortunately, Sony didn’t provide any further details, so how the game will play when it comes out this fall largely remains a mystery. However, a few new details about Stray have been released in recent months. Set in a crumbling city where humans have been replaced by robots, players, as a stray cat, will be tasked with exploring the city and uncovering an ancient mystery in order to find their way home. Gameplay will also feature stealth elements, and in true cat fashion, this will include occasionally annoying the city’s denizens.

With a set month for the game’s release (assuming the COVID situation doesn’t result in any delays), it’s likely that interested fans will be hearing more about it within the next few months. In the meantime, PS5 owners have plenty of other indie games to look forward to thanks to Sony’s ongoing PlayStation Indies initiative. These include another Annapurna-published title called Maquette, a first-person puzzle game where players manipulate the world by interacting with a miniature model of it.

In the two months following its launch, the PS5 has already established a strong lineup of exclusive and console-exclusive titles thanks to games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon’s Souls, and The Pathless. And if Sony’s current schedule is any indication, it will only get stronger throughout 2021 and beyond with the launch of games like Stray.

Stray is slated to launch in October 2021 for PC and PS5.
