Sony provides fans with a new look at the PS5's DualSense controller, revealing a feature that could disappoint many fans. Fans have been unsure about the PS5's controller since its first reveal, with some saying that they don't like the mostly white design.

Sony has updated the PS5's official site, providing a 360-degree look at the console's DualSense controller. The new look allows fans to look at the back of the controller, where they can see that it is completely smooth and does not feature any back buttons. Players would typically use back buttons to map more complicated maneuvers in a game. Some controllers, like the Xbox Elite Wireless Series 2 controller also come with back buttons, though with the Series 2, these buttons can be removed.

This is the second piece of disappointing PS5 controller information that Sony has given fans this week, as many were disappointed to learn that the PS4's DualShock controller doesn't work with PS5 games. The controller does work with some PS4 games on PS5 but that doesn't help those who had wanted to use the DualShock as a cheaper way to make local multiplayer happen on the new console.

The lack of DualShock compatibility was also mocked by the Xbox team on Twitter. The official Xbox Twitter account reminded fans that four of its controllers, such as Xbox Elite Wireless controllers, will work with the Xbox Series X. It was an excellent bit of shade-throwing, but the responses to it also highlighted PlayStation fans' frustration with Sony's compatibility policy.

Sony may well be planning to release a PS5 DualSense back button attachment after the console has launched. The PS4 DualShock back button attachment, though released at a time most gamers are thinking about the next-generation of consoles and controllers, does seem to have been very popular with players. That would mean that PS5 owners have to buy a different back button attachment but it would give players some option if they want to add more buttons to the DualSense.

This idea is also supported by the fact that Sony has confirmed several other PS5 accessories. At launch, fans will be able to buy a charging dock for two PS5 DualSense controllers, a HD camera, a media remote, and a new headset. These accessories are not hugely surprising but it shows that Sony is thinking about what other hardware that fans will want to use with the PS5.
