Anyone curious to see how the PlayStation 5’s new DualSense controller holds up to its immediate predecessor, the PS4’s DualShock 4, now has the opportunity to do so, as the first side-by-side of the two has emerged.

Last week, the first image of the DualSense in the wild made its way online, providing folks with a clearer idea of the controller’s dimensions, if not the advanced technical features Sony has been hyping these last few months. Said image depicted someone holding the DualSense in their hand, but while that serves as a decent comparison, fans are generally more interested in seeing it compared with Sony’s current-gen controller.

This is something Summer Game Fest host Geoff Keighley provided this morning during his hands-on presentation for the DualSense. He started off the livestream by holding up the DualSense and DualShock together, and afterwards he took to Twitter to share a photo of the two placed side-by-side on a table.

As many have expected, the PS5 controller is a bit larger than its predecessor, a change that likely will be welcomed by players who’ve found the DualShock’s smaller size problematic. Keighley also stated during the livestream that the controller is a bit heavier too, but doesn’t think the extra weight is a detriment. “It definitely weighs a little bit more, but doesn't feel substantially heavier, and if anything i think it actually has a little more heft to it in a good way, that it feels more structured and there's more sort of inside of it,” he said, adding that the controller feels more “centered” as a result and therefore “definitely feels good to me.”

The meat of Keighley’s presentation, of course, focused on demonstrating the technological features of the controller, including its haptic feedback and adaptive controllers, which he showed off playing PS5 launch title Astro’s Playroom. While him describing the controller’s capabilities can hardly convey the sensation of actually using it, Keighley still manages to paint an intriguing picture of the ways haptic feedback could affect gaming on the PS5.

A few questions about the DualSense remain to be answered, like the Create button that will be replacing the DualShock’s Share button. Sony has yet to detail how the PS5 will expand on the PS4’s sharing options, though odds are it will remedy that before the console launches.

The PlayStation 5 will launch this holiday season.
