With the launch of the PS5 comes a lot of additional companies trying to make money off the console and its users. This comes in the form of off-brand accessories and add-ons, such as control sticks and console skins. Although, one company has decided to cancel its PS5 pre-order skins altogether, citing difficulty with creating a skin that perfectly overlays with the console.

A common question that has been asked ever since the console design of the PS5 was first revealed is will there be a black variant of the PS5. For many people, the two tone color scheme of the PS5 is nice on its own, but some prefer a darker color scheme. Without any official word from Sony in terms of getting black console variant, consumers have turned to tech companies, hoping to potentially find a console skin in order to find some way of transforming the console into what they want.

However, according to dbrand, a company that specializes in customizable hardware skins, manufacturing PS5 skins is next to impossible. The company stated in a recent Reddit post that after multiple attempts at a console skin, it simply won't cover the PS5 all the way, not without leaving noticeable white streaks. Given the unique, meme inducing nature of the PS5's console design, it does seem rather difficult to make a customizable skin work.

The post ended with dbrand urging consumers to not purchase PS5 skins, considering that it will just lead to the same problems the company had. However, what was decently surprising about the Reddit post was dbrand's phrasing in terms of how the company chose to address its consumers. The post included multiple obscenities and explicit language directed primarily at the consumers, including calling them "a*******."

In any case, for those looking for a cheap, alternate way to make their PS5 black, it seems that this is no longer a viable solution. Along with the faceplate manufacturer that Sony shut down, it seems unlikely that fans will find a way to make their console the color that they want it. Though, one could argue that all is not lost.

In the past, companies have been known to release a factory model of a console and have that console be the flagship design for the first one to two years. Afterwards, the company in question tends to release a different color variant of the same console. Thus, a black PS5 console design could still happen, just not right now.
